BTW Did you know that Del Piero is the only official number 10 in Juventus history? Cause before 1995-96 season the jersey numbers weren't assigned, the starting eleven wore numbers 1-11.

So Ale is the first and only official #10 in Bianconeri history ;) :p
You sure ? I thought Baggio, Platini and Boniperti always played in 10.

That would be stupid; the #10 shirt is the most sought-after number in football. Why would you prevent another player, who deserves it just as much as Del Piero, from wearing it? It's the symbol for a team's best player on the pitch, not in a team's history.
I don't think it's true... it's certainly true in Italian clubs and NT and for some specific players but in other leagues it's sometimes meaningless and sometimes a non important player has it.

The Golden Ball award was never a failure, it goes to the most consistant player of the season.

Del Piero deserved it in 1998.
He couldn't have received it in 1998 because of the world cup. In all fairness he deserved it in 1997 and in 2003.

They did mate, they did. But they had to be in starting 11 to be able to wear #10 or some other player would take it. That's why you can see both Boniperti and Sivori wear number 10 from time to time.

Del Piero: "Out in all bookstores Tuesday, February the 13th, "10+" An essential introduction: this book is not an autobiography. Things like that you can do when you are standing still, sitting on top of your past, and this is not my case. What you will find going through these pages is a very detailed picture of what I am, in a particular moment of my life: the World Cup victory, and the Serie B for Juventus. A strong year, if you can call it so, a whirling of emotions, changes, decisions that I tried to express with the help of random thoughts, considerations, together with a mix of the number 10. It's a number that has a particular importance, that recurs with precision during the years and situations, and that sees me have fun with it, playing "categories". What you do is take a subject and choose your 10 favourites in any order you like for once, because from time to time we can do without charts and points..."
