umm ok lets c...how old was zidane when he played in berlin?or thuram?makelele even?these 3 were not 22 either but they managed to give outstanding performances in the WC...do u think ADP is not as good or better than these players??? That is where ppl are wrong...AGE is not ths issue man...many players have had careers even till their 40s...just look at shearer or bergkamp they were playing better than ever!!! it is simply how much faith the manager has on his players...Do u believe that Di Natale is a more valuable player than Ale??? And what "system" that is so revoloutionary is Donadoni playing with...they played the same formation in Euro 2004 and WC 2006 qualifiers
in terms of performances for the NT,no del piero is not as good as zidane or even thuram.he has underperformed at national level.his career for juventus and his career for italy are two seperate things.he has been brilliant at juventus, but he has not been all that brilliant for italy.whereas he might be considered indispensable at juventus, and deservedly so,he cannot be considered an indispensable member of the italian team.

btw, shearer and bergkamp were not playing for their respective national sides.their great performances during their 30's were at club level.my argument is that del piero has underperformed at national level, and with age catching up with him,i cant see him holding down a regular place in the azzurri squad.there are younger players around and they need to be developed.del piero has had his time in the blue of italy.now its time for the next generation.

I don't know why people care... I said from the beginning that Donadoni is pure utter crap. He's the definition of a milanista really. From the first instance he played his first match it was obvious he was crap and Italy looked completley different.. all the opponent managers including geogria heh said that it's a completlely differnet team and it's obvious that the one person to blame for that is Donadoni. His italy team plays UGLY and BAD... it doesn't deserve to go to the euros probably. So of course he would leave Del Piero out because he's an imbecile, an imbecile who also did nothing for Italy NT apart from missing a crucial penalty in Italy 1990.
what do his milan roots have to do with his team selection?going by your argument, even buffon and camoranesi should be dropped from the national team becasue they're juventus players, and he would have good reason to do so too because they're not playing top flight football.but he didnt.why?because buffon is an indispensable member of the NT,and camoranesi is probably the best winger available to italy.del piero faces competition from other players, players who are playing top flight fooball, players who hold promise and players who are YOUNGER than him.del piero is NOT the future of italian football anymore.he might make the odd cameo role, but that would be it.live with it.

DP good player and great servant to us, but on the world stage just another player.
A Juventus legend yes: an all time great no.

His time is over in international terms.

You make me laugh. I like that.

Do you really consider him to be an all time great, and if so lay your cards on the table: where do you place Ol' Lovely Eyes?
The amount of goals he had scored for his country. The goal in Germany against the very own Germans (none of the strikers ahd scored except for him). Next to last penalty kicker in Final Germany. The 2 misses in Euro 2000 made him a legend already similarly to how Baggio missed his chance on the penalty. World Cup 2002, against Mexico, saved them from an emberassment. U-21 Best Goal-scorer of the year. And do you have any idea on how many assists he made in his International career, I dare you to look it up.

I just smelt the coffee: roll over Maradona, Pele, Di Stefano, Best, Platini, Cruff and Zidane.

I'll leave you to your Mothers Meeting now.

“One cannot criticise Del Piero as a man or a player. He is an example for me to follow in every circumstance, a champion both on the field and off. Alessandro already showed great professionalism last year when he trained hard for the team and never complained, even if he rarely played.”

he is one of the greatest players of his generation and the last 10 years, remember had he not had that injury in 98 he would have been up there with the maradona's and pele's
