Del Piero: «I still dream of the World Cup»

Less than 100 days from the start of the World Cup, there are still players aiming at South Africa. One of these is Alessandro Del Piero. The captain spoke today on Sky Sport from Vinovo, as a link with the press conference for the presentation of the Special Olympics in Vancouver that are to be held between the 12th and the 21st of March.

Del Piero sent his personal good luck to all the athletes leaving for Canada in a particular duet with Francesca Porcellato, who is from Veneto too and a veteran of the Special Olympics. «Four years ago, I watched the games in Turin and I still remember the great dedication shown by these extraordinary athletes».

Del Piero then compared the importance of these Olympics to the World Cup, confessing his desire to try and repeat the title won in Germany in 2006. «Going to South Africa is my dream. The azzurro jersey is the maximum aspiration for an athlete and representing one’s country in the World Cup is a joy which is impossible to describe. I played for the national team, went through sad moments which were all cancelled by the great joy of the victory we had 4 years ago. If I won’t make it this time I will try for the next in 2014…»:shocked2: :delpiero: :weee:

To quote Rab, when he was talking about Balotelli:

If Lippi won't take him, then, logically, DP isn't that good and doesn't deserve the WC.
To quote what Lippi said "I know Del Piero more than any other coach, I've trained Del Piero for several years, I know what he's capable of and I want to try new players and want to see new faces"

Basically, what he meant when Italy started playing qualifying matches, is that he needs to try some other players because there's nothing more to see in Del Piero as he knows him by heart.

Balotelli is yet to play for the Azzurri NT and this is why I said that if Lippi really thinks Balotelli is as good as some claim then he would have at least tried him for a friendly game.

I knew someone would come up with this but the comparison itself is wrong.
