18.02.2010 299 PLUS TWO
How many goals have I scored? Let’s leave out the hypocrisy: for the forward the goal is important. So, the number does matter, I’m not ashamed to say that I do care about the number of goals because for me it isn’t only the reason to celebrate my success ( at least, not yet…) but a link to the future, because each time I want to activate again that “counter”, score one more goal, and then another one, and another one again and again! Especially when my goals transform themselves into the results for my team.
But the problem is that not all can agree on the number of my goals. It depends on the point of view. For example, there’s a daily newspaper that credited me with the goal scored in the match against Brescia, home game, on the 1st of November 2006, in Serie B Championship. They don’t consider that Colombo diverted the ball on my penalty, because it was destined anyway to enter the goal (Fifa version). According to the second version, two goals scored in the match against Genoa should have taken me to celebrate the goal number 300 scored as a professional player: 269 goals with Juve, 27 with National team (included the one against Lithuania, attributed to me by Figs), 3 in Under 21, and 1 when I played in Padova.
But not for all these numbers are correct. There are others newspapers, that credited me with the 1-0 goal against Inter, in the first round of this season.
Obviously, I try to think that both are right! And so, the goals should be 301...
But the main part of sources, on paper and on line, credit me with 268 goals , wearing black and white shirt. So what should we do? For now I think that a compromise is the best solution: let’s say that up to now I have scored 268 goals (+2) with Juventus, totally in my career 299 (+2), and above all, as soon as possible I’ll try to score another goal to make everyone happy and to celebrate “unanimously the goal number 300, playing as a professional player. Three hundred plus two. And then on and on to make the ”counter” work non- stop.”
PS. In England exists the “wise” commission. (The Premier League’s Dubious Goals Panel). They get together once a month to solve the problems, regarding dubious goals. May be they can give me a hand… Anyhow, in my opinion, it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to think about this kind of solution also in our championship.
