I realise he's important, infact, he's vital in a 4-3-1-2, since our other strikers aren't near creative enough to even make that work. We've seen that plenty of times. But his performances aren't like the Del Piero we all know.

His impact on our play is becoming smaller and smaller, even though he obviously has his decisive moments of brilliance. It's simply a huge task to get people to admit he's not the old Del Piero and usually he doesn't really play well at all.

I just think our team could be more effective in a 4-2-3-1, which would mean Del Piero would have to sit out. We've seen that in those games when we used that formation.

So people say we wouldn't score if it wasn't for him, but we scored 10 in 2 games without Ale, in a different formation.

People forget this team can function without Del Piero.

Oh, and just to clarify, I understand our wingers have been injured and that Del Piero isn't the only reason for not fielding a 4-2-3-1. Just saying that in general, that's how I feel.

And yes.. Ofcourse.. I hope he keeps scoring aswell.

I agree with most of what you say but to play 4-2-3-1 I think we'd need to sign a right winger and have a fit striker who might actually score (i.e. not Amauri).

We do need a right winger, and at first I thought Candreva would be able to play that role, but it seems we'll be using him a bit further back.

We could always play Iago or Rossi... But they're too young for any Italian manager. So yea... We do need a(nother) winger to really play that formation consistently, since Camo tends to get injured and won't last forever, and those kids we got don't get to play, ever.

His performances were below average tonight IMO. Nothing special really, invisible most of the time, but he got us that goal.
Watch out before the DP death squad gets you.

It'll take about 5 minutes before 10 people say that he won that penalty on experience and class, it was all Ale.

That's why I don't bother to post in here about how I thought he did.
You got it.

I havn't been on this thread for a while, Del Piero wasn't great, but he's the only one really scoring so can't really ask for too much more right now

When Amauri is bad people blame the players around him, when Ale plays bad and scores he's shit and should retire:seven:
He might be bad but he always finds himself in a better position in the box than Amauri. Even if he just makes a simple tap in, he was at the right place while Amauri was not.
Del Piero is a striker after all, everything I expect are goals.

Two different type of players that's the fact and Amauri needs the back up while Del Piero can create a chance and score by him self...That should be the main reason why Amauri should not be offended so much.

By the way, members here would sell Amauri for 10 mil Euros max,so that's how much the players around Amauri are blamed.

Not much has changed here I see.

Lets blame Del Piero for forcing the ref to gift us a penalty.

I just hope he'll keep performing bad and scoring so I can enjoy reading Del Piero's moaners posts more often.

Grande Ale.

But this is exactly why folks make fun of Del Piero fans, Rab. Because most of them can't accept criticism, which is unhealthy.

Everyone here loves Del Piero, so they aren't wishing him ill intentions. It's called constructive criticism and he does deserve it at this point in time. Penalty or no penalty.

I thought he was much more involved in the first half even though he didn't see the ball as much as Diego did. He had some clever touches and backheels. He still doesn't look as sharp as he should, and his dive before the actual penalty incident was funny :p
He needs to get back to full match fitness. I think he will score a few more before the season ends.

I am not sure if everyone loves Del Piero. Because the same people that criticize him for not playing up to his standard game do not praise him when he performs or scores a brace.

Check the Lazio match thread Andy, Del Piero is the only topic that is discussed/argued right after the match.

Although Del Piero did not have the best of games against Lazio, I cannot complain alot about his performance. He set up Diego for at least three decent shooting opportunities to score one of which is beyond me how he managed to pass it (when he was falling down inside the box).
He also managed to grab us a PK and convert it to a goal.

I think the three players that stood out with their performances were: Melo, De Cegli and Candreva.
