You only know what you know. He lacks the experience and at this point it’s impossible to tell if his career will be a successful one as a coach.
I do feel these players have more to offer than he’s able to get out of them.
For me the most frustrating thing is that we see periods of play when it all clicks and you see what we could (or maybe should) be doing all game.
But 80% or more of games we're plodding through. We still can't unlock a structured defence which is a huge issue because most Serie A teams will look to sit back against us and that's what they'll all tend to do if they score against us.
Openda in the centre on his own was a disastrous idea. Koop was better than normal but still well under par. Cambiaso put in the usual frustrating performance (when he let the ball run through his legs to nobody I had to leave the room for a second).
He needs to have strategies for when subs come on rather than subbing in whichever forward when we need a goal. We can't just rely on individual moments because none of the players are reliably good enough.
On the plus side I do like that he is clearly trying to mould the tactics for the players he has and is also giving players time to grow into their roles, but not too much time. Not starting Locatelli was ballsy even though it didn't work out. Just not close to good enough consistently enough.
