No -- just that England is not a national team. Or at least it hasn't been since 1707, or centuries before modern soccer was invented. But even to entertain England as a regional team (instead of national), you could argue that Barçelona serves the same role for Catalonia.

The point being that the lines between what constitutes a national team versus a regional team, whether club or not, aren't exactly a definitive black & white.
You don't need to put the tail on the 'c' in Barcelona. Barça however yes, cause otherwise it would read "Barka".

Why should the UK have a team?

Why do you care since you don't believe in nationalism or any of that sort of thing?
Surely that would be why id be in favour of a uk team? as having seperate teams is keeping us apart and sponsering bluff nationalism that england and scotland try and hold up. Idealy Scotland should be cut from the union and given sovereignty and England/wales become like the relationship between England and Cornwall.

Why don't you include Canada and Australia while you're at it?

Maybe even Marquez, since the rest of the world isn't really blessed with lots of great CBs right now.

Brazil has Lucio, Alex and Juan, Argentina has Samuel and Demichelis, Uruguay has Godin, Africa has Toure, the rest of Europe has Vidic and Ivanovic.

Actually, there is enough good choice when you think about it :D

It tickles me that in the 21st century we are still like warring tribes. Sports clubs are the perfect harmless proxy for this seeing as they are utterly inconsequential. Some people are appalled at this, but I wonder if it might actually be a good thing. If we can't stop thinking like tribes people perhaps we can at least make the whole exercise harmless.
yep we basically threw off teh shackles of tribal rituals only to invent team sports that invite tribal feelings

To the people who picked National Team, do any of you have a local club team that you support?
yep, Hearts, season ticket holder too

It's catchy too. But my point is: no one who has ever been to Italy would call Italians nationalists. Hell, they'd be better off if they were nationalists. Andy's confused and mixing up several phenomena.
yeah try telling the Neapolitans they are Italian....especially when Diego Maradonna is playing for Argentina against Italy in Naples

did you just make Wales a county in england?:snoop:
