lets imagine that u r in charge of the azzurri for one match ...

who r the players u'll choose ( max 22 ) and what formation and players u'll start with ...

for myself ... i would choose

Goli : Buffon, Toldo, Abbiati

Defenders: Nesta, Canavaro, Coco, Albertini, Maldini ( must be back ), Zauri

Midfielders : Totti, Fiori, Zambrotta, Di Biagio, Pirlo, Gattuso, Doni

Forwards: Del Piero, Montella, Vieri, Di Vaio

and my formation would be 4-3-1-2

--------------- Buffon -----------------------

Zauri ---- Nesta ------ Canavaro --- Maldini

---------------- Albertini ----------------------

Zambrotta ---------------------- Fiori / Pirlo

------------------- Totti ---------------------

Montella/ Vieri -------------- Del Piero

===========================================

** Del Piero must wear number 10 ... otherwise i'll quit :D:D

** Canvaro can be the captin and DP after him ...

===========================================

waiting for ur comment guys ...

I like the fact you have only one defensive midfielder, as opposed to Trap's average of four. However giving Albertini the job on his own would be a bit risky, since Totti ain't exactly gonna help out is he?

About Maldini, well he's retired anyway so this is a non-starter, plus he had a poor world cup, so even if he wanted to, I think it would be a bad idea, plus Zauri has hardly covered himself in glory in these internationals, according to most of you folks who have seen the games anyway.

Rest of team is great, especially the front three, which I would also have! And Canno as captain, for sure, he consistently performs exdellently for his country.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the team I would put out, for a start the formation, there has to be 3 centre backs, as this works best for Italy, and there is a shortage, it seems, of quality full backs.

So with Buffon in goal, Toldo as backup, the back three would be Iuliano, Cannavaro, Nesta.

Also, the front three will be the same as yours, totti behind Del Piero and Vieri.

that basically leaves 4 spots in midfield, which I would fill with Coco and Zambrotta on the flanks, with Fiore, and Tacchinardi in the middle.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus)
2.Alessandro Nesta (Milan)
3.Mark Iuliano (Juventus)
4.Alessio Tacchinardi (Juventus)
5.Fabio Cannavaro (Internazionale)
6.Stefano Fiore (Lazio)
7.Gianluca Zambrotta (Juventus)
8.Francesco Totti (AS Roma)
9.Cristian Vieri (Internazionale)
10.Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus)
11.Francesco Coco (Internazionale)

In a 3-4-1-2..like so

-------------------------------------Buffon----------------------------
---------Nesta------------------Cannavaro------------Iuliano----
Zambrotta----------Tacchinardi----------Fiore-------------Coco
--------------------------------------Totti-----------------------------
------------------------------Vieri-----------Del Piero---------------

Captain: Fabio Cannavaro
Free Kicks: Alessandro Del Piero
Penalty Kicks: Alessandro Del Piero

Toldo

F.Cannavaro Nesta Iuliano Coco
Fiore Tommasi Totti Doni
Vieri Del Piero

The subs are discusseble as in I have so many players.
But the starting line up should be this IMO.
With Coco as the only one going up to mid only, and with Doni and Fiore crossing. Tammasi ballwinner, and Totti a lil back bu creating much better. So much more att and the games will be so good.

Nice martin, but maccarone in the first team

I haven't seen bonera much, nor brighi or pirlo, so i'm not going to debate their selection ahead of, say Iuliano, fiore and totti.

But maccarone  instead of vieri, montellaean he's good, but I don't think he hould be top of the pile of Italy's forwards.

Well I kinda got bored with the regulars... :D And Macca looks exciting, same goes for Bonera in whose place I dunno who to pick (no, not Iuliano).

But no question about Pirlo, he belongs there ;):D:stuckup:

I would just make one change to ErikP's squad list.
replace Toni with Maccarone.

Though u have too many attackers (6 + Baggio and Totti)
so that doesn't leave much for the middle.
So i would Add Pirlo since he proved in milan that he can defend. he just needs to get used to the NT.
Brighi :thumb:

My National Team Formation:

-----------------------------------Buffon--------------------------------
------------------Netsa--------Cannavaro--------Bonera------------
----Zambrotta----------------------Pirlo--------------------Coco-----
------------------------------Brighi----------Totti-----------------------
----------------------Inzaghi---------------------Del Piero-----------

i put Totti behind DP and Brighi Behind Inzaghi because it works out well with their styles....DP tends to go wide and Brighi doesn't attack as much as Totti....So Totti and DP can swap their position smoothly duiring a game every now and then for fluidity.

I don't really see Totti and Baggio as forwards but as attacking midfielders! Both players are very skillful, possess great technical skills and are strong on the ball (hardly ever let it go). Furthermore they can definetely claim possession which makes them excellent players for the midfield.

I like the idea of adding Pirlo and Maccarone though but I decided to leave them out because I went for experienced players. I know Brighi doesn't exactly fit that profile but he's a good defensive midfielder (I couldn't really think of many more at the time) who could very well play in the position I put Tacchinardi. Needless to say I like him as a player and (partly) Juventino!
