There are many motives for continuous work and being active all the time in Islam.

“Truly, God does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” (Quran 13:11)
Right but what about these ones:

And your Lord says: "Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer): but those who are too arrogant to serve Me will surely find themselves in Hell - in humiliation!" (40:60)

But you will not, except as Allah wills; for Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom. (76:30)
But you shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds! (81:29)

Say: "O Allah! Lord of Power (And Rule), You give power to whom you wish, and you strip off power from whom you wish: [...] In your hand is all good. Verily, over all things you have power. (3:26)

Anyway, whether it is what Islam teaches to its followers or not, the fact that Muslims are the most "waiting for a miracle" sorts of people at leats shows that they have misunderstood Islam's instructions.
