The Haitian Red Cross said it believed 45,000 to 50,000 people had died and 3 million more - one third of Haiti's population - were injured or left homeless by the 7.0 quake that hit on Tuesday.

Presidents Rene Preval said that 7,000 people were yesterday buried in a mass grave. The Haitian Red Cross has run out of body bags.

They are still using bodies as barricades to halt rescue trucks and loot food and supplies.

Just heard on NPR that gangs with machetes are running around looting everything in site, murdering those who get in the way.

Pretty soon starvation and hydration will be a factor, along with disease. Those even slightly injured will most likely perish without help.

It's literally hell on earth in Haiti.

Just saw some breaking news on CNN that said, "Pentagon: Mass casualty event kills 30 Americans in Haiti."

Not sure what that's about as CNN is still getting more info apparently.

We're actually fucking up the relief effort. Since we have practically taken over the airport in the capital, the criticism is that we are letting in more military planes instead of those with relief supplies.

We are trying to help all we can, but it seems we're being very shortsighted in the control of the airport.
