Dan, are you just trying to get into the genre (ie. could do with a list of the best songs from the past 10 years or so) or do you want up to date/current stuff?

Just trying to get into the genre.

Everytime I go out and I end up hearing this kind of music and it makes the evening- not to mention I love the sounds of electronic music.

If you can find it in your heart, can you PM me band name et all? :D

It's all relavite. House and trance are two MASSIVE genres (specifically house). There's everything from deep house, to progressive house, to disco/funky house to tribal house (just to name a few). House is such a huge genre it still confuses me to this day. Trance has its own subgenres too but much less than house. In fact, trance adopted its 4/4 beat from house in the late 80s and early 90s. So techincally, trance is a subgenre of house. Trance subgenres may include epic trance, psy/goatrance, progressive trance, minimal/ambient trance, etc.

I remember in my starting years, I loved trance and only trance. Big DJs (they produce too) in the trance currently are Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Paul Oakenfold and Armin van Buuren (I like to call them the trance 5 even though each of them breed off into different trance and electronic genres some times). There are loads of other old and new trance DJs/producers too.

House and progessive seemed to bore me when I was starting out and anything without a beat was just plain stupid. The CDs that finally broke that house/progressive barrier in my mind was a mixture of James Holden - Balance 005 and Sasha - Involver. The CD that broke my ambient/chillout antifetish was both of Ulrich Schnauss's albums. The player that finally broke my anti-electro ideal was James Zabiela and some newer Sasha sets. And the two masterminds who caused my little love affair with progressive breaks where none other than Way out West (check out all three of their albums for quality electronic music).

There are honestly 100s (and I'm being modest here) of CDs and artists the one could recommend to you.

Just please promise me you won't fall for those cheesy Trance Classics Volume 603 compilations or those stupid Ibiza Classic compilations that release the some songs year after year. I fell for them and regret it. If you want to get a hold of some classic 1999 trance songs, get the Gatecrasher - Wet compilation. That CD includes soooooo many mega trance hits its not even funny! Stick to bigger DJ compilations especially Tiesto's Magik and In Search of Sunrise series. Any Ferry Corsten compilation is pretty much worth it too. PvD hasn't released much compilations by has loads of sets and artist albums definately worth checking out. And ever since 2000, its a known fact that Ministry of Sound has gone shiite. So stay away from those, except their chillout compilations still feed some good music to the ears.

OK here we go. Since technically trance is a subgenre of house, and house and trance both have loads of subgenres I could be a real geek/prick and split them all out, but I don't see the point and can't be arsed either, so broadly speaking I'm going to split it between house and trance where possible but there will probably be some crossover. I'm going to try and do these like a timeline, from the older stuff right through to the new (house ain't really my scene at present though so it might be a bit limited)

thats probably about it for house, from me anyways. Broadly speaking the newer ones are towards the end but I added some in at the las minute that I forgot earlier on. Some of it is like the house you hear today in bars/clubs, some of it takes you back to the early 90's old skool :touched: As I said I'm not really a massive house fan at the minute so most of these are pretty much well known. Should be enough for you to get started on at least. I'll do the trance list tomorrow, that will be better because trance is my thing.

EDIT I can't believe it censored ce ce peniston :howler:

Two completely different genres. Shpongle is Ambient, Mush is psytrance. Both are a bit old if you ask me.
I know what he is looking for, thus my suggestion.
