That's clueless though, Burke. There's a reason human civilizations throughout time have been centered around tsunami-prone shorelines versus the inland Himalayas. Or why people found the land much more hospitable for food, farming, and trade by living along the Ring of Fire, etc. It's not like any civilization made these decisions and said, "Oh, disasters will never happen here. This is safe. I will set up a civilization next to this volcano." Disasters can happen just about anywhere and the concept of any place "safe" is generally uninhabitable by most standards.
This is not centered around Japan or the Japanese people, whom I tend to like for their honor-based system and badass swords who put the Spanish to ground.

I'm speaking normally about the rest of the world, specifically the US, who spends 400 hours of news coverage on this one event.

How dare those Japs get in the way of the Lindsay Lohan trial or the Obama led Mau Mau revolution!

Media coverage is a weird thing. On its negative side, it's not all that different than people who want to watch a Charlie Sheen webcam waiting for him to O.D. on live video. On the other, it's a means of garnering world support for aid (especially for really f*ed places like Haiti) and also serves as a public reminder to get your shit together so that you don't become the next victim in your hometown... photographing the tsunami as the wave comes ashore.

But if the choice is between Japan on fire and Snookie, I'll take flaming Japs every time.

It just gets overplayed, and since I really care about as much as the tsunami that hit Phuket 5 years ago...
You don't care about anything, so it shouldn't bother you.

Oh boohoo! Someone fly a plane into the Empire State Building so that the US can get some of the attention that Japan is stealing away from us!

Ummm, definitely didn't really give a fuck about 9/11 either, that's why I constantly make fun of it with the Todd and Timmy thing.
:wth: So you were whining on 9/11 too that the media coverage of the attacks was too much?

I didn't say I cared about anything greater, I just said this is all that is being played, constantly...
Complain to the networks or go watch Entertainment Tonight if you want some more star action.

For the record, I kinda was. There's a point, usually after about 20 minutes, when 24x7 news coverage largely becomes a tape loop of performance art.
Agreed.

I don't give a shit about star coverage, where did I say I did? You are making assumptions, Drewbie.

I'm not, I'm making jokes. But you're caring about something you wouldn't otherwise care about, which is strange.

CNBC: France rates Jap nuclear crisis a 6 out of 7. "Serious." Chernobyl is a 7.
