well ppl here will tell u to dump windows :D and get Linux and i would recommend that too

however (if just love windows) then u could defragment it.Cuz the other solution would be reformatting it and the first option is better imo.

Just hope its not a hardware problem

Ad-aware
Spy-bot
Easy cleaner

download and install these 3 softwares, they are all free. than scan your whole computer with ad-aware and clean all the junk it files. than do the same thing with spybot to clean everything ad-aware missed. then run the easy cleaner which will remove some false/bad entries from your registry. do those 3 steps in those order and you should get some performance boost. if it doesn't please you, do a re-install of winodws.

I have the same problem & my computer is less than a year. Last time I defragmented, I found there was little to defragment. I have Ad-aware on a CD & I've downloaded easycleaner, so I'll try that. Thanks Vlatko! :pint:

how long roughly?
I defragmented mine today; - it took about an hour. It has taken longer on a previous computer, but then I did not clear my online toolbar history, cookies folder, shred my website history, temporary internet files, & clean my disk every day I use my ISP as I do now.
