Thinking of the legend of Santa Lucia, because these are the stupid things I do on this forum, this sentence is actually pretty funny.
For one, because Santa Lucia was supposedly sentenced into prostitution by a Sicilian governor for being a Christian. (Though it turned out that the guards were unable to carry her off.)
For another, because she's considered the patron saint of the blind. You'll often see statues of her holding a dish with two eyes on it -- referring to a legend where the Roman emperor Diocletian put out her eyes as part of his torture.
Because of that latter point, I've known a lot of Italians who will say "Santa Lucia!" when they've misplaced their glasses or otherwise couldn't find something right under their noses.
