Al-Bluwi confirms surprise Guus capture


Al-Ittihad have confirmed the appointment of Guus Hiddink as their new manager with the Dutchman set to officially take charge on January 25. He succeeds Gabriel Calderon whose two year stint with the Saudi team ended after the 2-0 loss to Pohang Steelers in the Asian Champions League. Hiddink who has long been linked to the vacant post at El-Ittihad was recently given permission by the Russian Football Federation to assume club duties while he was still under contract with Russia.

The Dutchman is set to be unveiled at a press conference in Jeddah this Thursday. Hiddink is set to ink a new 2 year contract with the Saudi outfit.

A statement on Al-Ittihad's website said: "Guus was the outstanding candidate for the job. He has proved over a long period his ability to build teams that challenged for, and have been successful in, major domestic, European and International competitions. He brings unparalleled all round experience to the job".
