well, if we get him it will be because he is the best option available not because he is the best coach for the team.
I don't know of many experienced, proven managers, who I would say are truly special. Your statement implies something valid, but not accurate. As who are all these other coaches currently unavailable, who would be the best coach for the team???
I like Ferguson. Hardly a tactical genius, but as a man manager, and creative/directive force for a team, he is superb, and always has been. Fortunate with the crop of highly talented players who came through all around the same time in the 90s, but still...he's a winner.
Capello. We have already had him. Tactically clever, strict disciplinarian...A great coach, who plays boring but very effective football. Another winner.
Mourinho...I rate him as a manager. Its stupid not to. Though much of the great results he had at chelsea, was based on the foundations forged by Ranieri before him...Tactically astute. Revels in using his own charisma to galvanise his tropps and irritate opponents. His arrogance aside, he has the makings of a great coach. Lacks class though...Passion is one thing, petulance is another. Great players seem to follow him with zeal, which is ALWAYS going to help him wherever he ends up.
Prandelli has performed remarkably well in Florence...but is not yet anywhere near the standard of the trio above...Neither is Gasperini...but as a juventino in heart, I would be much more eager to see him given a roll of the dice than Prandelli.
I would prefer ANY of the above coaches to Ciro, but when I chuck Guus into that mix, only Mourinho comes close to what I perceive to be the dutchman's talent and potential to take our club back to the top. And Guus has more experience than any of them, rescue missions. I don't see it as simply the potential challenge of reviving the fortunes of one of the former giants of italian and world football, its also the challenge of facing off against mourinho. Hiddink would be challenged in many ways.
Out of all those coaches, i would choose Guus. Because he has proven experience at doing what we need someone to do, desperately...which is pull together a fragmented, downtrodden team, which DOES contain enough talent to be far more potent and entertaining a team than they are now and have been for many months, and produce something close to the optimum potential output, of the TEAM, not just individuals.
7m would be fine by me. Because he is MORE important than transfers presently. Its not just our results which have been wretched, its been our performances. the club is lacking spirit and heart and seemingly, quality. Bonuses for winning competitions...why not eh? If he earns it, grant him the prizes. I would be far happier to be a decent team again, capable of challenging for Serie A and not facing potential humiliation in EVERY champions league game, than get another second rate manager, spend another 50 million in the summer, and continue to slowly decay into a team challenging the likes of parma, fiorentina, geno, roma...for 3rd-5th position when we should be throttling the milan clubs, vying for top spot alone. Like we used to...
