Going to search for a new guitar tomorrow. Still not decided if I'm going for a fixed bridge or a floating one. The former is convenient, but the latter is something I always wanted. I'm willing to spend about $350 on it. My friend strongly insists I look at Washburn guitars. But I'm not sure. I've given up my desire for an Ibanez. Let's see what I'm presented with.

Don't get an ibanez, get something versatile. Les Paul's are great for lead playing and bring the dirt.

I'm not getting an Ibanez. But Les Paul's are expensive and out of my budget. But I'll try to get something similar if it's available.

Check out the length of the neck, gibson/gibson style guitars use a 24 3/4 inch neck, fenders use 25 1/2 inch, and superstrats use 25 3/4 inch.

Gibson style are really bendy and sound sweet for sustained deep bends and when they have a thin neck too they can be shredded.

Fenders are less bendy and a bit chunkier.

Superstrats are for legato style which is really restrictive.

The reason for the neck being prominent is that it is to my mind more important than the picks ups - you can replace them

$350 isn't much to work with but I'd say look at low some low-end ESP LTDs. Maybe like EC-50/100 if they don't cost too much.

What's the difference between EC-50 & EC-100?

Go even higher if you can but better quality, better parts, wood, construction etc. I'd also compare them with an Epiphone LP standard if you can afford it.

Also, check out the SG/Viper and Explorer/EX body styles if you like them too (and if they are comfortable).

Apparently, the hardware is the same in both the EC-50 and EC-100. So I'll go with the former.

The 100 will have better quality wood and construction. It will probably play better too.

Active or passive pickups? I'm inclined to go with active, although I'm not sure how often I'll have to change the battery.

Years. Depends on the sound you're going for too. Though I wouldn't suggest active with a solid state amp. Only tubes or good modelling amp.
