How typical, that the same 'kick ourselves in the balls' routine came back to haunt my english brothers against the yankees...Lovely goal by Gerrard, who has never seemed like Captain Material for me...but Green's schoolboy error has caused the nation to sigh with horror and regret. Still, its been clear to most englishmen, that although we have two of the strongest midfielders in the game, an attacker of serious world class talent, and rock solid centreback in Terry...also half decent fullbacks, enough pace and promise on the wings...but a seriously shocking goalkeeping situation. Since Semen retired we have been fucked really, between the sticks.

The yankees deserved their point. and will celebrate the result with pride. The english, are demoralized, downbeat, sickened, and view this, feel this, with the same emotions as a loss.

America are a decent team, especially collectively...but really...if England have any SERIOUS hope of winning the tournament, they should be winning games like this, against this level of opposition, not gifting them a draw and point, on a plate.

My fear is now that we will finish second, and face the germans, who as always, have hit the ground running...

Hi, I’m new on this forum.

It seems that there is a lot of ignorance about Algeria and North African football going on in this thread. People seems to judge the type of football of these teams solely on few matches and this is sad. North African football in his true form is all about skill and passion.

However, the new generation of Algerian players is unskilled, but they relied on pride, mentality and compactness to manage to go to this world cup. Before the WC, Saadane (Algeria’s coach) managed to destroy the team’s unity by incorporating a lot of new players (This was also the case with the ACN) and he downplayed the importance of the world cup a good number of times (yes, even if there is a lot of pressure by algerians). The Result ? The players play like they don’t give a fuck. It’s like they are already in vacations.

Our team is weak, really weak.. But i’m hoping we pull a shocker against England, even if it’s impossible.

Oh and, Chaouchi was, is and will always be a clown.

Actually there's a fairly large North African contingent on here. Mostly Lybians and Egyptians though. Fair amount of them root for Algeria. We have a general WC thread in which the matches are discussed. I'm sure those fellows will be around during the England match.

As for NA footie, I actually enjoyed Egypt in the Confed Cup.

Most people are judging Algeria off their performance against Slovenia. Which was a bit of a blunder. I know a few of their players and they have skill but unfortunately at the world cup it's the results that count.

Welcome to the forum by the way. We have a "new members" thread. Introduce yourself mate and stay a while.:D

You're right, The Cur, the Ireland match was a mess too.

But, it is understandable. There was only one defender that is normally a starter that played in that game, it was Haliche. The other defender were all new comers and all are pretty much bad. Two of the goals were Bellaid's fault (shit player).

Then, there is the fact Saadane has the tendency of always playing Mansouri, our captain, even if he's absolute crap. He's invisible. The love our coach has for Mansouri is a bit of the same of the one Ranieri shared with Molinaro :D. By the way, good thing, he benched him for the first time since he's coach against Slovenia. That was a shocker!!

Also, Saadane has no tactics, no plans, no style and is a pessimist coach and it showed in our play. The only reason Algeria have made it to the WC after the impressive WC qualification they had is because of the heart and desire the players showed. It's not him that qualified our country, but our players.

Finally, normally our team in the past always liked to show off against ''big teams'' and bringing in the best out of themselves, even if sometimes this is not enough. Algeria tends to not play with the same energy with teams of their level or below theirs. It's also possible that Ireland may not be a big team in the view of the players (even if Ireland is miles ahead ours).

Even with a fullforce squad Algeria would have maybe didn't beat Ireland, but I'm sure we wouldn't have conceded 3 goals.

By that logic there is no such thing as cheating in football as there is always an option for a ref to disallow a goal/card a player/not give a freekick/add on extra time.

Maradona, with his 'hand of God' goal, didn't cheat because the ref could have disallowed the goal.
Additional time is almost always added close to the amount of time wasted in a football match furthermore it doesnt depend that much on the quality of the ref to make such a judgement on the close time wasted but rather on him stopping the damn watch. So no, its almost always taken into account unlike other cheating acts which are overlooked by refs mostly for human errors.

I changed my mind; I was actually supporting Algeria against Slovenia, and felt that the Algerians were extremely unfortunate.

Having said that, I still expect the English and the Americans to make it out of this group, with the US hopefully topping the group.

It's going to be tough. If we happen to win our two last group matches, I don't see us beating these sides by more than one goal, especially Slovenia. So that means we would only have a +2 goal differential, which England will probably trump.

So England will have to fuck up royally to not top this group.

I know Aaron i was just joking. :D We are used that a lot of people don't know where we are. Our TV commentators made some interviews in South Africa before match against Algeria with their fans and some answers were just awesome. Not to mention one who said that he knows Slovenia very well and that we were part of Russia  Ahh.

InsouciantTerrorist: No, no no.. It was Slovakia

Maybe an indication of how we will play. But I really don't like this statement, we should go for the win and secure the qualification in the 2nd round.

But it is also true that I can see our team getting a result against England more so then against the USA. For example 2 draws could be enough, because Algeria I think will suprise someone, I don't see them with 0 points.
