Real tempted by Vargas
Saturday 31 May, 2008

Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a bid to steal Catania left-back Juan Manuel Vargas from under Fiorentina's nose.

The Peruvian has been superb this season, performing well in a number of different positions for the Sicilians.

The 24-year-old made 36 appearances for Catania and scored five goals, which helped keep the Elefanti in Serie A.

He has been linked with Fiorentina since the end of the campaign and the Viola are believed to have made an offer of £9m for his services.

Fiorentina President Andrea Della Valle is prepared to give Vargas a five-year contract worth £600,000 a season.

Real Madrid, however, have entered into the fray and are reportedly willing to pay more than the Viola for the man dubbed the next Roberto Carlos.

If the Spanish giants are successful in the landing Vargas, it will be the second time this summer that Fiorentina have been outbid for a player.

The Viola missed out on World Cup winning defender Andrea Barzagli earlier this week after German outfit Wolfsburg offered him more money.
------------------------------

No wonder Fiorentina are losing players that seemed sure to sign for them. The salaries they offer are silly compared to what the richest teams pay.

£600,000 a season = 750 000 Eur a season.

To compare, in Milan the player with the lowest salary (Digao) earns 1 million.
Fiorentina lost Barzagli exactly because of the wages they offered. They offered less than 1.5m while Wolfsburg gave him double more.

De Ceglie better come good quickly, because if we have to play in the CL, Serie A or Coppa Italia with Molinaro as LB again, I guarantee we'll be trophyless come the end of the season.

I hope Molinaro is back up to De Ceglie, because Molinaro is seriously hopeless...watching live 15 metres in front of me the other night really opened my eyes as to how bad he is.

oh, one more thing, if Mellberg starts at right back, this means maybe Grygera can play LB as well..he did have his best game for the club in that role..i know it was a one off, but maybe playing him consistantly there wouldnt be so bad.

He played two games as LB, one he completely sucked balls, the other he was good, mainly for venturing centrally and offensively by scoring and assisting, not much else when it came to the specific task of an LB (plus Genoa were walkovers in that game).

And Mellberg is a CB, he is NOT good as RB, he cant cross and it doesnt suit him. He is only played there in Villa because they have zero other options, that they were forced to play their best CB there.

Blanc Slams Door On Liverpool's Riise

Juventus chief executive, Jean Claude Blanc, has revealed the club will not be signing a left-back and thus has closed the door on Liverpool’s John Arne Riise.

The Norwegian left-back was linked with a move to the Bianconeri who are currently reinforcing their squad ahead of their Champions League return.

Riise’s future at Anfield is looking in doubt and reports in Italy claimed that Juve were paying close attention to the stopper.

However, the Bianconeri have revealed that they have no intention of signing a left-back.

“I can confirm that we will keep the left hand side of our defence as it is,” said Blanc.

“Cristian Molinaro and Paolo De Ceglie will be competing for the left-back place as they are two players who we have plenty of faith in.

“We want to show everyone that we can go far with our own home-grown players.”

The Bianconeri have already captured Albin Ekdal as well as Amauri and they are currently in talks over Xabi Alonso’s availability from the Reds.

Juventus president, Giovanni Cobboli Gigli, has in the past stated his intentions to focus on youth and it seems as if his philosophy is being adhered to by his directors.

ok i know its goal but still it is what he also said when we bought amauri... looks like we really don't buy a new lb.... so we r only going to sign two players? amauri and a new midfielder?

good to know that we buy another attacker ( our strongest part of the squad) and no new defender ( our weakest part)

It seems that Amauri and Alonso transfers have absorbed most of our transfer budget, lets hope that our owners keep a surprise for us in the end.
Maybe someon who will shine in Euro or someone who would come cheap attract their interest.

I am really disappointed we are more interest to sign someone like Cassano, instead of a proper LB starter...
Our defense was our weakest link this year and instead of upgrading our huge and real problems at the back, we added a few decent solution and we are fine tuning our prolific offense with luxury subs...

We are becoming the new Real by choice...

Juventus, idea Grosso

It Says that Ranieri is planning to Replace Molinaro, and Grosso could be the solution Juve thinking of.

cassano would be nice to get next year given he proves to mature this summer. u cant doubt his ability and he is much younger than our current offense. DP has another year or 2 at the most.

i think if we got a great CB to run the defense that could really help out molinaro/de ceglie to learn and grow. molinaro was kinda throwm into the deepend last year with no one to really learn from. chiellini himself our brightest def is still learning. u cant call amauri a luxury sub, we arent anything like real madrid. it is going to give is more creativity up front. if we keep iaquinta we will have one hell of an attacking lineup.give the board time, we still have all summer.

I hope we do sign Grosso as I always rated him high
anyway we need a great CB to partner Chiellini as Andrade is mr. injured and Legrotagllie despite his best season is not good enough to be our starter especially when we are competing against Real Barcelona Man Utd Arsenal Chelsea not forgetting the Italian top teams like Inter and Milan
(there is also Mellberg but how good is he I don`t know...)
our defensive aspect of the mid is also vulnerable but this is not really an issue since Xabi would be landing here in 2 weeks top...

So I guess we will get Xabi Alonso and work with De Ceglie keeping the rest of the money to buy someone who might perform well in the euro
