Agent doubts Rossi switch

June 19, 2011

Barcelona now appear unlikely to sign Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi, according to the player's agent.

Agent Federico Pastorello said this week that Barcelona had seen a bid for Rossi, 24, rejected and that they were awaiting further developments.

"We are aware of an offer from Barcelona, but we were also told it was considered insufficient," Pastorello had told La Graderia. "We haven't spoken to anyone for over a week. We know the Blaugrana are negotiating with Villarreal, so all we can do is wait for news from the two clubs."

However, it has since emerged that Barca are on the verge of clinching the signing of Udinese star Alexis Sanchez and, with the club having only earmarked €45 million for new signings this summer, Pastorello no longer expects his client to move to the Camp Nou.

"There have been no contacts in the last ten days. At this point it looks unlikely Rossi will join Barca," he told COMRadio. "They want Alexis Sanchez and, if they sign him for €30 million, there won't be money left for Rossi.

"Barcelona are free to sign who they want, no problem. This is football, and football doesn't end at Barca."

So here we have another new Juventus fan, 6 months from Brooklyn, New York. Who does he like? G. Rossi?

I'm not surprised. If only DHS would take them more seriously than returning veterans.

ok so lets hypothetically say that pastore, sanchez and aguero are all impossible, who would you invest that money into?
I don't know, but I surely won't pay 30 for Rossi or 20 for Mirko and present them as world class signings. I don't dislike Rossi and I even like Vucinic, a lot, but after talking about superstars like Tevez and Aguero or superstar to be like Sanchez, it will be a big disappointment for me if our "superstar" is someone who wasn't, isn't and won't be that.
Naturally, I'd love to have Rossi or Vucinic in the team, but at the expense of Quag, Matri, Iaq, Amauri or Toni. The one who'll eventually take Del Piero's role needs to be a much better player than Giuseppe and Mirko.

I think he's probably aware of Aguero's imminent arrival. Also if I'm not mistaken, he is Licht's agent, and might be clued into Juve's market moves. So I'd believe him. Also, I'd be curious to see how Rossi would fit with Aguero, Quag and Matri.

different types of players. sanchez fits the mold of modern fast paced football better, i doubt he'll fit into barca's tiki tacka but rossi is better suited for that style...sanchez would do wonders in epl

Giuseppe Rossi's agent: "Barcelona have finally moved on to signing Alexis Sánchez and left Rossi behind"

"They didn't have €30m for signing Rossi but they do have €40m for signing Sánchez".

That's because Sanchez is better than your client, dumbass.

I still think Rossi would have been a better signing for Barca than Sanchez, even though Sanchez is clearly the more talented player.
