Premiership - Transfer talk: Parma want reject Rossi
Manchester United 'ace' Giuseppe Rossi could be on his way out of Old Trafford after his agent confirmed that Parma have made a bid for the American-born Italian to make his loan deal permanent.
His agent Andrea Pastorello confirmed that: "I think with an offer of 10-12 million euros (£6.7-8.1m), Manchester United could be tempted to let Rossi leave." Porto have also positioned themselves a distant third for the striker's services.
Rossi's last goal in England was last September during a loan spell at Newcastle, when he scored against Portsmouth in fringe-player purgatory, better known as the Carling Cup.
Despite this accounting for 50% of his total goals in first-team British football, it would be unfair to label the talented 20-year-old a flop in the Grabbi or Silenzi mould. He has averaged a goal every other game during his season in Serie A, but Alex Ferguson needs to make room for Carlos Tevez somewhere, assuming all the red tape over the Argentinian's move can be cut through.
The next Italian for Premiership fans to cast their beady eyes over will be Reggina's Rolando Bianchi, who is expected to sign for Sven's Manchester City today.
Chelsea winger Arjen Robben's ability to change direction in the blink of an eye is not only reserved for his jinking runs that turn full-backs' shirts back-to-front, he's adept at doing it when it comes to contracts too.
After his spectacular u-turn when he joined Chelsea after apparently signing for Manchester United, he's now managed to say that he is happy at Stamford Bridge and that he may leave in the same breath.
His assertion that "I'm happy where I am now. I will start he season as a Chelsea player," was instantly followed up with: "I do not know if I will sign a new contract. Negotiations have not gone well." Transfer Talk is still trying to work out how contract talks that include a £100,000 weekly wage can go badly.
Arsenal look to have acted very shrewdly in the transfer market again, as they may offset their £6 million sterling footprint for Bakary Sagna by planting Freddie Ljungberg at Fiorentina for just a shade less at £5.5 million. William Gallas may criticise Arsene Wenger's transfer policy, but you can't deny the man's book-keeping skills.
Meanwhile Spurs are after Hertha Berlin's self-styled 'Ghetto Kid' Kevin-Prince Boateng, allowing them to offload Hossam Ghaly's toothless grin, styled by Noe Pamarot's boot, to Birmingham.
Portsmouth expect to sign David Nugent today, Liverpool have made an improved £5m bid for Yossi Benayoun, Wigan have emerged as favourites for Marlon Harewood's signature and Bolton have signed Xabi Alonso's brother Mikel on loan.
