Must I remind everyone of the sort of signings we used to get before this guy?

I do think Marotta messed about this summer, and is a lot to blame, but to say he was never any good is a knee jerk reaction imo.
He has got somethings right when working within his strengths, but he's got a whole lot wrong. And it's been true from his first season with us. Take away Conte for a minute, and you could be looking at a team led by someone like Mazzarri (that's who Beppe wanted when Agnelli chose Conte) post Del Neri, and I'm almost certain we'd have less than four scudetti. The sad part is, had Conte, or the likes of Ancellotti been here, there is no way in hell Marrotta would be allowed to make the moves he did this summer. Point is, the likes of Sampdoria can survive year after year, relying purely on opportunity buys alone. But Juve need a bit more than that when we've got objectives like the CL and Scudetto on a year after year basis. And to think we couldn't make the leap in quality a year in which we almost had the treble. Sad and frustrating.
