People expecting €30m+ transfer . We haven't spent that much on one transfer since 02/03. We came close a few times, mid-high 20s but haven't hit €30m for 10 years.

personally don't give a flying $#@! about them, they have no significance.

And if we are to judge the transfer managers works, we must consider them as well.

The casual fan may not care about it, then he cant have an objective opinion on some matters, as he ignores some pretty important facts, the performance of the transfer director is one of them...

Van Persie 'impossible’ for Juventus

Juventus director general Beppe Marotta has insisted that it was “impossible” to sign Robin Van Persie from Arsenal this summer.

The Italian giants had tracked the Dutchman, but he eventually decided to join Manchester United instead – the club he scored a hat-trick for on Sunday.

“We had a few objectives on the market and we couldn’t get all of them,” the Turin official stated when asked about his club’s moves.

“Take Van Persie for example, at this moment in time it was impossible for any Italian club to sign him.

“To pay €30m for a player coming towards the end of his contract, without taking into account his wages, was not possible for Juventus or any other Serie A side.”

The Italian champions were looking for a new forward and eventually landed Niklas Bendtner, but only after failing to sign Dimitar Berbatov from United.

Juve’s bid to net the Bulgarian has been heavily criticised by Fiorentina who have blamed Juve for interfering with their proposed swoop for the forward.

“I hope to come across President Andrea Della Valle soon so that we can clear up this Berbatov situation, but I want to underline that we didn’t do anything wrong towards Fiorentina.

“We made an enquiry after the player had already turned down the Viola, but it all ended quickly because he told us that he preferred Fulham.”

Juve have started the season as favourites for the Scudetto, but they are also keen to challenge in the Champions League.

“We have reinforced a lot for Europe even if we can’t say that we are at the same level as the four or five top teams on the continent,” Marotta added.

“But we will be hoping to make a difference with our style of play. We’ll need a lot of intensity which was our winning characteristic from last season.”

imo it is important, i always cared about it and always admired our club about it at pre-calciopoli era.
It was imo, the only thing that lept us competitive after the Agnelli decline.
We never had the money and the influence to compete with Europe's very best.
The woth of very competent managers though did the trick.
Thats why i believed it was imperative to give priority there, since the very first day of rebuilding our team.

It is not a concidence that our enemies made desperate efforts to get this advantage for us for nearly a decade and when they realised they couldnt, they have decided to take them down, no matter the cost for serie A.

In order to return even remotely close to that level, we need to have a very competent team of directors there again, as this have been proved time and time again our driving force regardless of players and coaches.

This is why i believe it is very important and why i insist on criticing the current incompetent transfer manager and the water boy we had before...

check my stance on his transfer thread, i never believed Marotta could do any better and i ve always feared that we will end up with a Borriello again,
so a Pazzini class was a decent compromise (also comes in line with us favoring Italians anyway and i would still prefer him to Di Natale, Gila and Borriello, and most definitly than any SS like Cassano)
Swaping Quaq with him, would not interfear with our big name chase anyways.
And the point is that if Lazio can attract and financially support a Klose, then so can we.
But it is due to our transfer manager's incompetence alone, that we keep failing all this time...

Dont talk nonsense..I was just trying to refute Ahmed's argument about us spending big as we've done in the past regardless of Zidane's sale.Point that stands is we've spent 'large' fees on a no.of players so you cant deny that fact by saying 'its not our style'..Its ignorant in my opinion.

Oh and you are delusional to think that we'd keep players like Vidal forever.I guess some people just dont like being objective.

And let me clear it up..Read my earlier posts..We shouldnt be spending big right now as we've accumulated substantial debt even though the future looks bright..What i was trying to say that we may have to make a big signing at some point preferably when we are in a totally stable position financially ,there's definitely room for that Like Bayern are right now hence why they spent 40m on Martinez ,Bayern dont do these type of transfers all the time and they are one of the most profitable clubs in the world..Just saying.

No market, regardless of attractiveness can uphold such an inflation like the football one has been doing through the past 6 years, it's bound to topple over some day soon. When it does, we'll be there signing players on loan with option to buy for 20m

And besides, you and all the apologists are completely wrong in thinking we didn't have the money to operate in the mercato. Moggi sold players like Zidane, but let's not forget, he was in that position because he bought players like Zidane too. Marrotta has got the monetary backing from the company and has a free hand in spending money that has seen 30 or so players come amd go from this club over 3 years. Only goes to show the conditions with which he has operated. All this spending doesn't warrant not having at least one star player in our frontline to show for, especially since Marrotta is the one who got rid of Trezeguet first up. There is no excuse, monetary or otherwise to justify what you're trying to.


PS: I have been over this numerous times. This is not a Moggi vs Marrotta argument, as I don't intend to compare the two or their achievements.

Our mercato is not about our ability to spend. Our market is and has been about our incapacity to cater to what's available on more neutral terms than the ones presented to us by the conditions we are well aware of. Even when the mercato deflates, we'll never get anything on 'our terms' when dealing outside of the Serie a.
