Marotta has definitely improved his dealings on the market in comparison to last year but he still manages to spend high amounts on players that bring zero value to the squad. Last year it was Martinez and now Elia in total amounting to 21 million euros down the toilet. Why was Elia bought when it seems increasingly clear that Conte has no desire to use him? We definitely lack balance with our wingers - Giach, Estigarribia, Elia were all bought in the one mercato for the very same position while none were bought for our right side.

Overall Marotta has done a fairly good job building this squad but he seems to make illogical brain farts and they're quite expensive ones.

It's too early to write off Elia, from the perspective of the player, although his signing was unnecessary if you look at the picture now. When we signed him he was the starting winger who we needed for the left wing forward, but times change.

Exactly, at the time it seemed that Conte wanted to load the squad with wingers for his 4-4-2, but when he decided that the 4-3-3 was the way to go, maybe one or two of these extra wingers have become redundant.

But yeah, I think it's still a bit early to write off Elia. The signs aren't promising ATM, but who knows what will happen with that twitter loving bastard.

i agree that the elia transfer was crap but the balance thing is just not true imo. afaik giach has been a right winger or is at least able to play there without any problems, i´m not sure about esti but it seems like conte wanted elia to play on the right as well because he likes the players to cut inside and finish with their strong foot (elia is a left foot). so elia sucks and giach plays on the left more often than on the right because vucenic doesn´t have pepe´s lungs . no balance problems there imo
furthermore it seems like conte was eager to play a 442 (424 whatever) with two wingers and vucenic as a SS so we can´t really blame marotta for getting a lot of wingers.
