How can Pirlo, Vidal, Lichtsteiner, Vucinic, Ziegler, Pazienza and 2-3 more players (I'd guess, Alex/Lugano/Coates, Vargas/Giaccherini/Carlos Eduardo/Ramirez/Elia/Perotti and Aquilani/Fernando/Mascherano/others) be our worst mercato? Although a little risky, Marotta can't have done much better with the budget with what it seems like he got. I'm no means his biggest fan but I've gained a lot of respect for him this mercato. Pretty much all of weaknesses will/have been addressed by the end of the mercato if we get a CB, decent LW (Vargas etc) and a DM or CM. Our only position that will be a little weak will be LB but even Vidal could play there if Ziegler and DC completely fail. I'm confident that if things go as they should (not too many injuries to key players and no shit losses like those against parma, palermo etc) we will reach 3rd spot. Once we reach CL I'm sure Marotta will buy 2-4 WC or almost WC players, with those being a winger(s), left back, CM and a striker.

ofcourse they roma havn't finalised their squad by any means, then again neither have we. i havnt been too impressed with lazio's transfer campaign, defensively they look frail without muslera and lichtsteiner.

nah common cronios, i wouldn't say that this would be our worst transfer campaign. tbh id say its quite the opposite. with the exception of adding squad players like pazienza, all in all we've looked to improve in all alreas, by no means sorted for the next 10 years or anything, but i certainly feel it could be sufficient enough to challenge for a CL spot. atm if i were a roma fan i'd be more worried, their transfers have been disappointing.

I would, because i m not easily get carried away with the new player enthusiasm and forget our real issues.

I don't even know what the point of buying Giaccherini would be. Forget the whole Italian thing, and speaking in regards to where he would fit on this team. i whole heartedly disagree about the squad being unbalanced, this is why i was hugely in favour for vidal, as he would be better suited. lichtsteiner brings stability in the back line, whilst ziegler is an improvement over grosso to say the least. we have to bare in mind we are competing for a CL spot, and not the league, thus far i feel this could definately compete for that with the addition of 2 or 3 more players. I'm not getting carried away, im trying to be as realistic as possible with our objectives, but also being enthusiastic based upon what we have seen so far. tbh the game on sunday against milan will be the most intriguing test of our system and formation(s)

You cannot rate smth like that on wishful thinking, if we buy Lugano or Alex and Vargas, then indeed, this could be turned into a great mercato!
But considering the damage done so far and the reckless decision they were made, its extremely unrealistic!

Vucinic and Vidal are fine players, but they were players we didnt need!
Plain and simple, if they were coming as extra players to add depth or improve our standard starters, then they would be mostly welcomed, but adding them on the expense of players we needed more (starter LW, CB, LB) is just a stupid mistake imo.
So if we do buy a CB and LW in the end, their acquisition will male some sense, but if we fail to buy them because we have invested on them, instead of the ones we should have bought, their acquisition will be registered as an error in my books and by the end of the season you will understand what i mean now.
I have been adamant on the same matter, in the previous seasons and by the end of every year, i m pr oven correct, as we fail because we didnt upgrade our weaklings and wasted our resources at opportunity targets we didnt need.

This is the main reason i consider this mercato (so far) as a failure, i never had any Aquero delusions, on the contrary, i was the one keep repeating that we are too small of a team to buy such a player.
And the second part is how many millions we have wasted in our releases, (Tiago) sell offs, (Giovinco, Melo) uneeded acquisitions (Vucinic after Quaq's acquisition and then consider Giacherini's, despite the fact that we failed to get rid of Amauri and Iaq and we have bought Quaq and Matri) etc
Many of them could have been avoided and we could have saved many many millions with half decent management.

You should start making these arguments after midnight august 31, IF the squad is not complete. I believe Marotta will follow on his word and buy Alex and a LW. Honestly, I don't think Conte would want Giaccherini as his starting LW. Michel Bastos would have been perfect with our budget but I'd accept Vargas or Perotti (despite the risk).

Vucinic and Vidal were players we exactly needed. Do you even know why Melo left? I'll tell you why, he said that he was not happy with his wage, so he left to get more $$$$. After hearing that I realised he's not the kind of player we want. Vidal just feels like relief after you take a massive dump. He is mentally stable, better than Melo and a great player. There's no way we could have gotten a better box-box or defensive midfielder for less than €10.5M. He will be part of our midfield for many years to come. In the tim trophy he proved he's not going to fail. Despite causing milan's goal, he didn't step on somebody's leg or kick someone in the head (like Melo would) but became even more determined eventually scoring for himself and crossing for Matri to score the winenr. He has great determination and perseverance and is exactly the type of character we need in midfield.

In regards to Vucinic, who is to say that Quagliarella won't get injured again? For €15m, he is a great addition the squad and increases the depth largely. If one or both of Matri & Quagliarella got injured, who would play upfront. We can't rely on Del Piero for whole games anymore and we should try to reduce his playing time to less than 30 minutes when he plays so he can continue for another 2-3 seasons. Toni is 34 and is not very prolific anymore, Iaquinta is made of glass and Amauri is leaving. Vucinic is a player we needed.

How could we sell Tiago this mercato if no-one wanted him last? The best thing Marotta could do was terminate his contract and remove his wages from our pay-roll. Giovinco, I'm not really sure what to say here but I don't think he wanted to come back to Juve. This was out of Marotta's hands I believe. Melo, well, I already said why he left but yes I do believe he should have sold him for full now but maybe this is another one of Marotta's loans and Galatasaray will be forced to buy him next winter mercato.

Giaccherini, we haven't even bought him yet and who knows if we will. Marotta has no fault in not being able to get rid of Iaquinta. The guy is injured 100% of the time so why would any team in their right mind would want to buy and pay the wages of a player who is shit and injured 100% of the time. I believe Amauri will leave before the end of the window because there are plenty of teams interested in him, Fiorentina, Parma, Palermo Marseille, Besiktas even Milan possibly.
