I never liked him, and never will. I will also never understand the people who defend him.
Once we start seeing results, perhaps I will be less biased towards this utter douche. Hopefully by then he will be back in his Sampdoria day job in Serie B.
As for all the players you mentioned, at least Secco showed ambition. They were very good/promising players when we acquired them, with the exception of Iaquinta. Andrade was a solid defender (had it not been for the injuries that ruined his career), Sissoko was a solid buy back then, as was Tiago, and I remember people fapping like crazy and speaking of the Scudetto when we bought both Diego and Melo. As for Amauri, he definitely did overpay for him, but back in his Palermo days he was a beast.

I think they certainly overpaid for Pepe, to be quite honest. That was one of those moves that I had to check the internet twice when I heard about it. I actually did like the martinez move at the time. I thought that he was a very good player that could play multiple positions, and that type of versatility was welcome. I just never figured on him being injured so much to show whether he has any true value left.
Matri, granted they did overpay for him, considering the bind that juve were in once Quags went down, but I thought back then, and still think now, that he is a very good player, and with players like Vucinic, Pirlo, and hoepfully (Oh how I pray for this) Vargas coming into the picture, that he can maintain the pace that he had last season.
Secco showed that ambition because let's face it, the true core of the Juve squad were still there, with Camo, Nedved, Buffon, Trez, Del Piero, Chiellini, already inthe squad. What he was doing was attempting to add one or two pieces to a core, that while aging, was still a damn good core. The problem that happened was twofold.
#1) The players ended up being nowhere near as good as advertised, and
#2) That "Core" got old, very quickly.
The biggest mistake that Marotta made last year, if he was truly the one responsible for it, was the hiring of Del Neri. That is my biggest complaint, if he was the one who made that call.
The team, talent wise, was better on paper for the 2010-2011 season, than it was for 2009-2010. It was a deeper squad, and quite frankly, a better team. So why the end result? I still say that it is Del Neri that dragged that team down.
I'm not saying that marotta is perfect, far from it. But there are a few things that I like that he has done so far this mercato. And if/when a LW and another CB are brought in, then I feel that most of the holes on this team have been plugged.
The other thing that I really, really like that has taken place in the last couple of years is the focus on buying a lot of young players, and not just players domestically. Finaly going into the Scandinavian countries and Brazil to acquire young talent. I've always beena a major proponent of building a championship caliber team from within, and I think that is one aspect of this regime that he needs to be given some credit for, the willingness to go out and acquire young talent.
I guess I'm just one of those types that doesn't get overly excited or feel that the sky is falling.

It was just funny how predictable you response was. Nobody's "praising" him and we're not saying he's perfect or even great, but we seem to forget what a difficult situation he's working in. I'd say he's doing a decent job trying to make the team competitive while the club is still reeling from the aftermath of Calciopoli and the consequences of the previous management AND making the team financially responsible and self-sufficient which is clearly a formidable task, as we can see by looking at all the other big clubs. Look at Arsenal and the trouble they have trying to manage both.
I think we'll be better prepared than most in the not-so-long term.

I agree with most of the points Serge made, but I'm still skeptical as to where these youth being targeted are going to end up, and how good they actually are.
Marotta is dealing with a difficult situation, and things aren't going to get any easier I feel. I'm not overly excited by the team nor particularly looking forward to the new season, as I have a feeling we will end up finishing 4'th.
Marrota's policy of quantity over quality completely backfired last season, and whereas he has addressed certain lingering issues like the RB situation, I'm still disappointed that he hasn't acquired a "Top Player" as promised. Had the current regime, coupled/aligned with the old one, focused on recruiting 2 to notch players each summer and surrounded them with young talent, we wouldn't be in this predicament.
