Juventus' Giuseppe Marotta Hits Out At Chelsea After Missing Out On Sao Paulo's Lucas Piazon
Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has made it clear that his side refuse to pay a minor excessive wages.
Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that the club are disappointed to have missed out on the capture of Brazilian youngster Lucas Piazon, but added that Juve refuse to pay any minor excessive wages.
The fallen Serie A titans were believed to be close to securing the services of the Sao Paulo starlet, but the 17-year-old Piazon has now opted to join Chelsea instead.
"We're actually proud that we haven't signed Piazon under these conditions. It would have been unethical to pay a minor a salary in the region of €1 million per year," Marotta was quoted as saying by Tuttosport.
"What would his future teammates be thinking? Players who have yet to sign a professional contract.
"It's hypocritical to argue that players earn too much money nowadays and then criticise our decision not to meet Piazon's demands."
Chelsea had considerably less problems with Piazon's financial demands and were quick to seal the deal after Sao Paulo accepted their €6m offer. The attacking midfielder will join Chelsea when he turns 18 in January 2012.

Very stupid move. Wages nowadays are very big and 1mln per year is not a lot since it'd be a long term deal. He's also tipped to be a huge player.
It would be like not paying 1mln per year for old young Hamsik.
