Matri for 15.5 Million? Talk about panic buys! What a joke! Buying more mediocre Italian talent for a truckload of money, money that could've been spent elsewhere. These loans with options to buy will all materialize in the summer, and we will be left scratching our heads, wondering why we didn't get anyone worthwhile.

Yeah a total of 18 million for Matri is not good, not good at all. When spending 18 million on a player I expect the player to be someone special or a terrific young talent. This makes me wonder what it would cost for us to sign a player like Ilicic, Hamsik, Lavezzi and I'm not even talking about the biggest talents like Pastore or Cavani.

Well played by Cagliari though, they knew we were desperate and they used that fact to their advantage.

We were told we would only make signings that improve the team and help us reach our objectives. Matri will probably help, but does any1 believe Toni and Barzagli meet this criteria?

Is Barzagli and upgrade on Legro? No, imo, he will just be injured less. He would have been free in the summer, yet we spent 300k (whether its deducted from Diego's fee or not is irrelevant as it's still a loss of 300k), and there is a further 600k in bonuses if certain conditions are met (probably CL). I doubt there was a line of clubs for Barzagli, so the idea that we may end up paying 900k for a player whose contract would have expired in a few months doesn't represent smart business.

Toni was hardly a hit at Roma or Genoa, missing games through injury despite his limited time at both clubs, yet we sign him, and not so long afterward he is out injured for a month. It would be unfair to blame Marotta for this, but the writing was on the wall. Regardless, the fact remains he is past it as player, is not a long term option, and his goal scoring record since returning to Italy is nothing to write home about.

With that said, I still haven't given up on Marotta like some of you. The fact of the matter is that as a result of the past regimes incompetence, he has had to juggle 2 objectives which are in direct conflict with 1 another. For that reason I am willing to give him more than 6 months, even if I already see some mistakes (although with the benefit of hindsight).

This is the problem i have with marotta,most of his deals are loan with an option to buy,he is not really sure about talent...But if our intention is to at least retain a couple of those guys then we are screwed,his options to buy are very expensive...like aqua and now matri

we havn't paid them 15.5 mill, why are people here thinking we have? for a 2.5 mill loan i think it was a smart signing, considering our financial restriction.

As Capello said "It's better to focus on quality rather than quantity." Had we brought in 2 exceptional players every season since our promotion back to Serie A, we would be competing on all fronts now. We have opted for quantity over quality, and we have done it again this season, and in the winter Mercato. Quantity may win you a game or two, but quality wins you titles. I feel we have regressed even further than last season, and our struggles will continue for the foreseeable future, unless someone steps up and decides to curb this disturbing trend of mediocrity.

In any case, we are fast becoming the new Inter of old. Sadly, they had quality players, but failed to win anything due to incompetence and fragility within their DNA. Lately, they have inherited our old DNA and become the New Juventus, whereas we have transformed into the Old Inter, without the quality.

Depends on the terms of a deal, since Juve seem to find it remarkably hard to find cash to put up right now.

I have to admit, I'm rather curious as to why Juve are (apparently) suddenly so short of cash.

but we havn't paid 18 mill for matri. thing with Liverpool is they can probably afford to pay in less installments, something alot of people here fail to realise that transfer fees for the most part are paid over a long period, and not all at once.

Yes, we know. But we haven't and may not pay the full amount for Matri. And we got him now because we need him now. It would be impossible to negotiate a cheaper deal anyway, given the timing of our need, every club knowing Juve's desperation and the importance of the player to Cagliari.

partly because of the new stadium will release funds, plus marotta seems adament that we will sign at least aquilani and probably quags too which can only mean that he knows there will be money in the summer, thats just my taking on it.

I would be concerned that most of that 'pot of cash' is dependent on Juve making the CL.

I don't think that the stadium will start generating cash that soon, but it is possible Juve will release cash in the expectation of what money the stadium will generate in the future.
