Yeah, pro athletes.

Does that quote refer to dressing in general or what? No one can tell them how to dress outside of conferences.
I'd say boarding planes or anything Juve related for sure. Although if you are representing an established club like juventus would you dress like a bum at all

let's try to sum up his work:

2010/2011:
arrivals: Bonucci (15.5M); Krasic (15M); Martinez (12M); Storari (4.5M); Quagliarella (4.5M loan); Pepe, Matri and Motta on loan (6.5M); Rinaudo (0.6M), Traore (0.5M), Barzagli (0.3M), Sorensen (0.02M)

Failed to get a left back, overpayed for Bonucci (who turned out to be a good player), horrible deal for Martinez, decent/good deal for Krasic, good deals bringing in Pepe and Matri, amazing deal for Barzagli. The team desperately needed talent, so Matri, Pepe and Quags were good additions, even though he overpayed for Quags and Matri. But he didn't have much choice at the moment.

departures: Diego (15.5M), Poulsen (5.5M), Ariaudo (3.8M), Molinaro (3.8M), Almiron (2.5M), Ekdal (2.5M for half), Camoranesi (2M), Giovinco (loan 1M)

Good departure deals.

Overall, Juve was in a very difficult position, he had to overpay for a few Italian players, for others he simply commited mistakes. Found Barzagli on a cheap, Bonucci now should be worth not much less than his cost. Storari was good, he found Sorensen. Overall, decent job.

2011/12, main deals:

Matri (15.5M), Vucinic (15M), Vidal (12.5M), Quagliarella (10.5M), Litch (10M), Elia (9M), Pepe (7.5M), Giac (3.5M half), Padoin (5M), Motta (3.75M), Caceres (1.5M loan), Borriello and Estigarribia (0.5M each), Pazienza, Pirlo and Ziegler on a free.

Awesome job. Overpayed for the Italian players. But gambled on Pirlo, who was out of his peak for years and had been injured a lot last season; found Vidal; Elia deal was decent, even though Conte decided not to use him. Litch was very very good too, Giac a good deal, Vucinic showed his worth.

Main departures: Sissoko (7m), Ekdal (3M), Giovinco (3M), Sorensen (2.5M), Melo (1.5M).

He failed to sell Melo and Iaquinta, but ok.

Overall, awesome work. he bought half the team that would become unbeaten Italian champions, believing in an aging and often injured Pirlo.

2012/13, main deals:

Giovinco (11M for half), Isla (9.5M for half), Asamoah (9M for half), Caceres (8M), Gabbiadini (3.5M + 1/2 Troisi for half), Boakye (4M for half), Leali (3.8M), Masi (1.5M), Pogba on a free, plus countless young players. Sold Krasic for 7M, Elia for 5.5M.

Good mercato. Failed to deliver the top striker, but it wasn't his entire fault. The only one really available didn't want to go - Jovetic. Brought Asamoah and Isla, WC potential players, + Pogba on a free and Giovinco who is very good and could end up at Inter. Invested heavily in youth.

Another flaw was failing to get Verratti., unable to get rid of Iaquinta.

I'd say it was a good job in the end.

2010 - decent
2011 - very good
2012 - good

In the end, his work is good. Could have been better, for sure. He's probably still learning to do the job at such a high level. And it's hard to see any team doing a better job than Juventus in the Italian mercato. I have doubts if he'll be able to put Juve in the next level, in Europe. But I guess he's improving.

He's not the ideal, but is decent or good. It's hard to think of someone with a better knowledge of the Italian mercato than him.
