So after two mercato's, how would you guys describe Marotta's philosophy? I feel he's looking and hoping for diamonds in the rough. Just basically trying to find players in smaller teams that could be valued a bit higher. And they're not youngsters, but actually guys that have been in the game for a few years without really being in the discussion for bigger teams. Guys like Giach, Padoin, Esti, Martinez all basically came out of nowhere. And then we have guys like Borriello, Pepe, Quag, Motta, Pazienza, Toni, Barzagli and Pirlo were all guys that people have given up on or not rated and Marotta gave them a chance. If you guys have seen the movie "Moneyball", Marotta philosophy reminds me a bit of that.

The only signings that we've gotten and we've actually been pretty sure that they would make us better would probably be Vidal, Vucinic, Matri, Licht, Caceres and Bonucci. Those were all players that we expected to become regulars. (Caceres as LB). Bonucci didn't turn out that great though.

No one was expecting Matri to do good either, except for moi of course, but I'm not gonna brag about it.

The director of the Serie A leaders backed the Italy international and refuted the notion his side want to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic banned after the Coppa Italia incident

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has leapt to the defence of Giorgio Chiellini following the defender's comments about AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Chiellini accused the Sweden international of slapping Marco Storari during the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final at San Siro, which Juve won 2-1.

Milan duo Massimo Ambrosini and Marco Amelia have since slammed Chiellini for his remarks, but Marotta believes that the defender's character is unquestionable.

"Chiellini is a great player and a man with great principles," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia. "He did nothing except answer questions from the reporters.

"Neither he, nor Juventus, want to pass judgement on what happened. Milan are strong with or without Ibra.

"The Coppa Italia tie is still an open affair."

The return league is scheduled for March 21 at Juventus Stadium.

Well kinda, before we signed Matri we needed a striker and this time we actually got a striker that was playing well scoring a bunch of goals. Also we payed like 18 million for him so it was an indication of how important he was going to be.

Marotta is a good director; he's never going to be great, but this summer will decide whether he can deliver and attract/sign those top stars or not.

A WC striker, and a quality player to replace Pepe as RWF, and he will have largely redeemed himself.

Sacking Marotta at this point makes no sense.

This will be his most important transfer market most likely, though. Big pressure on his shoulders is what I expect so we'll see how he handles it.

Marotta's work on the market has improved coinciding - funnily enough - with the arrival of Conte. He may have made some good moves, but he's also made way too many mistakes. Had a more competent SD not made as many mistakes we probably would have excelled even quicker. That's why you can't just take Juve's recent turn around for granted and ignorantly judge Marotta a good director based solely on recent results. I really do believe that had he not made so many mistakes (especially in his first mercato) we may be have been playing in europe and doing even better domestically this season. From everything I've heard so far, it seems that Conte is really the one in charge here and considering Marotta began performing more positively on the market since Conte arrived i'm even more reluctant to credit him for our success this season.

With a firm, direct manager like Conte, Marotta's role becomes less important and even though I still view him to be mediocre I'm less worried so long as Conte is pulling the strings.

His bad moves coincided with the presence of Delneri.
Bah. Or his good moves because of the fact that Conte decides 'everything'?

Personally, I'm very satisfied with this Juve and Marotta deserves credit, no doubt about that. I've been moaning for some type of players for like 3 years and we finally got them in the summer, I'd be an idiot not to praise him after Vidal, Pirlo and Vucinic. Giaccherini also, who's a nice find for a rotation. Not to mention Licht who proved me, and Barzagli who proved almost everyone wrong. We have depth and our squad looks very good to me, now it just lacks a couple of WC players to be on the highest level. Sure, Marotta has made some mistakes, but so did every other director out there. But unlike many other teams, it was us to take a huge step forward and with the CL next year (hopefully) I can see us being even better. Not just that we're unbeaten this season as the only team in Europe, but we're actually playing great and this, this looks like pre - Calciopoli Juve. You can see the fucking hunger in the air. So, bottom line is that over the past year or so, Marrota has done more good than harm for us but.. I have to say that Conte plays the major role in all this, he's our key to success.

We just need the final touch. Give us some players that are stars(for example Higauin) or have potential to become stars(Jovetic) and we'll be fine.

Also, less signings like Borriello and Toni. There just isn't anything there, they are done. Can't revive them so no need to hope for something that isn't there.

When our budged for the summer has been determined, i totally expect you to demand us to sign tripple of what we can afford, and afterwards blame marotta that he didnt.

"a WC striker and a quality player to replace pepe"

cmon, this isnt manchester city

we will get 1 good attacker, within our budged, and thats it

What matters to me:

- we're improving (which we are rapidly)

- we're competitive (we're first and undefeated)

- we won't go bankrupt
i wish more people read posts like this
