yea i think its a band aid...i doubt he'll be permanent. i have confidence that the other forwards will show top form in training and games and keep borriello in the tribuna...to make any significant capital outlay in january is very risky..in june when u know for sure what we're competing for the next season then the significant assessment of personnel would be done..so i see boriello as a cheap 'just in case something goes wrong in this 6months'...with everyone breathing down everyone's back in the table the games become more physically and tactically demanding and we need to mitigate effects of suspensions, drops in form, injuries, woman trouble etc..boriello is not better than what we already have...upgrades on what we have will take much money AND a definite knowledge that we'd b playing CL next season

The only guy with top wages that was signed KNOWING he'd be 4th/5th choice is Borriello but is that accurate?
That's what I'm saying, Mike. We already learned the hard way how it feels to pay big money to players who don't play. That's why it was silly to sign someone as 4th choice, knowing that he earns a lot. We were stuck with the rest, but we had a choice for Borri and yet we signed him.

Of course, if Borriello signs a contract with Juve in the summer, he won't (hopefully) be offered the same wages, but if we're determined to sign him, we will still be forced to offer him good money (some 2.5m eur) because he'll have the choice to go back to Roma and seat out the rest of his contract earning his 3.1m eur a year. He won't accept a huge way cut just to sign for us. Is he worthy of that? Imo he is not.

meh, you never know with some players. the appeal of fighting for titles and cl could be enticing.

Torres took a pay cut i think when joined pool for madrid. obviously not all players are willing to do that...but you never know

In Borriello's case it will depend on the situation with forwards in Juve. Being a 3rd choice for Roma and 3rd choice for Juve isn't a huge difference. But earning 3.1m eur for that in Roma and 1.5m eur for the same in Juve....It's a no brainer for Borriello.
I can see him accepting a rather big wage cut if he's convinced that he'll get solid amount of playing time for Juventus. Otherwise I don't see him doing it and in order to keep him we will have to pay him at least 2.5m eur a year.

He signed a whooping 5 year deal with Roma in which his salary grows up every single year, reaching up to 4m eur net from next year. Will he leave all that if Juve won't offer him similar numbers?
Roma will do everything to get rid of him. We must play this smart.

i'm pretty sure we will sign boriello come summer anyway.

summer time: amoori, iaq, dp, toni, krasic, and possibly giach/esti won't be here.

that leaves us with quag, matri, pepe, elia and one of giach/esti

i thinbnk marotta take opotion on borilello besides signiing a star for the attack

My suggestion to Marotta (I know you're following us, mister) is this:

1. Roma don't want Borriello -- checked
2. Borriello has 3 and a half years left of his contract with Roma in which his salary will grow from 3.1m eur to 4m eur -- checked.

So, Roma desperately want to get rid of him.
But:
3. We have an option to buy him for 8.5m eur

It's easy for us. We tell Roma that we can save them from Borriello only if they let him go for free. If they don't want that, then they can keep the big guy and pay him the fortune while not using him at all.

To Borriello we say that we will offer him more chances than in Roma only if he accepts a big wage cut. We offer him 2m eur a year tops. If he won't accept, then we thank him for the 6 months he gave to us and wish him luck watching Roma matches from the stands.

Free transfer and 2m eur a year should be our offer to both Roma and Borriello. Noone should feel hard done by from it. Borriello won't need to stay out of football for the next 3 years, Roma don't get to pay a fortune to someone they won't play at all while we get a decent player for free and for acceptable wages.

or Borriello decided decided to come here and wait for Luis Enrique to get fired and return to Roma next year with a new coach where he will get a new chance

It would have been an interesting debate indeed, with content and a conclusion.
Lo Pan has been one of my fav posters in the past years and i adore any forum interaction with him. This was a rare opportunity to disagree with him and i m kind of disappointed we didnt meticulously shared our conflicting opinions.
Unlike athe haters Lopan posts have content, even when they arte one liners and he doesnt have to insult, mock or provoke anyone...
Cheers, Cron...we share a mutual respect which I enjoy. I gave up bothering to go into detail or even post regularly (here) a while back, after finding another virtual niche or two which were far more accomodating of what I like to write, and far more discouraging of the near to constant childish bickering, virtual ball cupping and ridiculous efforts at appearing masculine, which spoil many of the brilliant threads on here. Easier for me, and easier for others, if I keep my appearances on here brief and less verbose. I save the lengthy epics for elsewhere!

Anyway, keep doing what you are doing mate. well reasoned, passionate debate is always welcome to my eyes...whether it contests or agree with my own thoughts.

Biggest mistakes so far:

1. Luigi Delneri
2. Getting rid off Trezeguet and replacing him with the likes of Toni.
3. Paying €12 mill for Martinez.

Best moves so far:

1. Putting together the best midfield in Serie-A
2. Barzagli for under half a mill.
3. Hiring Conte.

I put hiring Conte 3rd because it could still go either way. So far it's been successful.

Final judgement will be made this summer.

Wasn't Andrea Agnelli who wanted Conte here, he said it many times in interviews that He was convinced that Conte is the right man for us? On the other hand, Delneri "clearly" was Marotta's choice last season and it was a huge failure.

How are is anyone other than Beppe and David himself, that it was Beppe who 'got rid of Trezeguet'??? Perhaps I have simply missed the statements which confirm this in some way??? As far as I know, our beloved argie frog super marksman was eager to keep his missus happy, by moving to a region where much of her family lived (hercules)???And if anything, we did him a favour, by paying a portion of his wages so he could move to that particular club and region????

If it was about keeping his missus happy he would've moved there in the first place instead of coming to Juve. The main reason he went there is Beppe kicking him out, and the thing that hurts the most is the way he and Camo were treated. Can't ever forget that, and even though Marotta has been pretty decent this last summer, I'd still want a different GM once his contract expires.
