Yep, we signed ziegler because he was italian and sold him because he was too good so we needed a mediocre italian. Conte of course, disapproved, which is why he started ziegler in every preseason game...

We signed him because he was cheap and because we dont want to invest on the defense, as it does not creates any spectacle and does not adds any new spectators on the stands.
We aim for the Italian nationalists, we dont aim to improve our team or win smth, therefore we will not at any case invest money on the defense and prefer free players and preferably of Italian origin, to keep the nationalist fans appeased...

Zeglier was utter crap, we knew hat from day one, when Conte saw that DC's physical condition is decent, he opted to keep another Italian slot 100% pure of foreign blood and gave Zeglier the boot...
Our defense is an expendable compromise, as long as we bring more CM and SS dribblers to create the hype that sells tickets...

The sole exception and best transfer of the season is Licht, but that happens once in a decade (Thuram was the last) and only after the foreigner has served in the Roman legions and is accepted by the Italian fans...

A typical pattern that repeats itself since calciopoli, (at least)

Disprove the point by naming the high profile foreign defenders we have invested upon, instead of spending our budged on CM and SSs.

Grygera was free and crappy, Caceres and Traore were free, we systematically avoid investing on foreign defenders of indisputed quality that copuld easily become starters, like Licht and we instead keep trying to promote/favor mediocre Italian defenders like Molinaro, Motta,Grosso, DC and Bonucci, regardless of their horrific performances that gravely affect our standings...

We only invested a decent sum on crippled Andrade, to replace Boumsong and thats only because we didnt want to pay the full amount needed to buy Milito.
Since then we only added cheap/free squad players, wih zero potential to compete with the crappy Italian defensive options we had/acquired.

We haven't bought a decent defender since Giorgio, who was Italian, it's not a nationalistic thing at all it's a general incompetence.
indeed it smostly due to incompetence, Chiellini doesnt count, as he was there from Moggi times.
Since then, the only serious non Italian defensive investement was Andrade and even that was considered a compromise, considering our primary targets and expectations.
Since then we only find cheap/free quick fixes, we systematically avoid to invest on non Italians, give the best salaries and budget allocation to Italians alone (Grosso, Barzagli, Motta, Bonucci) and cut ties with the foreign mercs asap. We are also carefull not invest on foreigner defenders who can throw their Italian counterparts on the becnh, despite the lack of decent option of Italian origin, esp for the fullback position, an issue confirmed in the NT as well...

That's just uncalled for. Cronios is persistent with his ideas but he's never this impolite to anyone.

Not everything he is saying is untrue its just highly exaggerated. We almost signed Piazon for example but his wages were considered so lucrative by Marotta that he considered the terms unethical. On the other hand we pay over 10M for Pepe and provide a big wage in his contract. I consider that much more unethical despite the ages of both Piazon and Pepe. Surely there is some bias on Marotta and Agnelli's behalf regarding nationality and the decisions to buy such poor Italian players for such high fees over better foreign players is driven by that. It was impossible to avoid buying Vucinic for 15M considering all other options had already been exhausted and the pressure for a decent SS was increasing but keep in mind the strikers that Marotta had been going for before push came to shove - lots of Italians on that list and not very good ones. Besides, Agnelli is already quoted that he wants to maintain and strong Italian identity in this club and that begins with the players.
I don't think Conte is the same though. To be honest I think he's just slowly and responsibly integrating Vidal, Elia and Krasic into the team but my patience is wearing thin on Vidal and Krasic.

Were there any real and concrete options for LB, though?

I'd rather not see him buy players just for the sake of it, like he sort of did with Martinez.

I think he has his eyes (or that transfer-eye of his) set on one or two particular LBs, that simply weren't available in the summer, one of them being Kolarov.
