Marotta: 'Juve dream of Dzeko’
Wednesday 21 July, 2010
Juventus’ general manager Beppe Marotta has revealed that he dreams of signing Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko, although he admits that it will be difficult.

The Bianconeri have made no secret of their pursuit of Dzeko who is arguably the most in-demand centre-forward in Europe at the moment.

This morning’s Tuttosport claims that Wolfsburg director general Dieter Hoeness has put Dzeko up for sale, as the player wants to leave.

Manchester City are almost certain to return with another bid, although they have recently turned their attention to Inter striker Mario Balotelli.

Interviewed in this morning’s Il Corriere dello Sport, Marotta was asked if Juventus held out any hope of signing Dzeko.

“It’s a dream that isn’t over, an objective that we will follow for as long as possible, though conscious of the enormous difficulties involved.

“Wolfsburg’s asking price is high and the competition have greater resources. But it’s nice that Dzeko expressed his pleasure at the prospect of Juventus being an eventual destination. It means that the appeal is still strong.”

Reflecting on Juventus’ transfer strategy as a whole, Marotta said: “I can confirm that there are two priorities: a left-back and a right winger. The others are linked to parallel operations.

“It’s no longer the time to spend crazy amounts of money. Purchasing power must be equal to turnover and besides the Messis and Cristiano Ronaldos aren’t accessible to Italian clubs.

“After a disappointing season, it was fundamental to restore enthusiasm to the fans. Our work has only just begun, but they have learnt to trust us.”

Marotta then responded to criticism that Juventus’ signings have so far been relatively lacklustre.

“We only have to look back at Juventus’ history to erase certain prejudices: champions uncovered at little clubs who became great in Turin wrote it. Anastasi and Gentile came to light at Varese, Prandelli and Cabrini at Cremonese and Atalanta, Conte came through at Lecce and Ravanelli had surprised at Reggiana.

“We want to refresh that tradition again.”

JUVENTUS, Marotta: "Elia and Aogo are Juve material"

Interviewed by Il Corriere dello Sport/Stadio, Juventus managing director Giuseppe Marotta spoke out about Vecchia Signora's market purposes: "Our current philosophy is betting on very young players: during last friendly match against Hamburg Ekdal, Motta, Lanzafame, De Ceglie and the youngster Ferrero were on the play field all together, therefore both Elia and Aogo are Juventus material; however, we must take into account our financial availability. We are keeping our own eyes on Krasic too, but we must consider he is a non-EU player; we also keep dreaming to sign Edin Dzeko, and we are glad that, even if the other clubs tracking him can afford higher sums to pay, the player would prefer joining us".

Of course, it is not easy to see emerging talents because they haven't arrived yet. The players you mentioned are virtually established, international players. The historic players Marotta mentioned were no such players, although I agree with your sentiment for the some of the players we have signed, like Pepe (26) and Martinez (27). They could be good but won't ever be great. Motta and Bonucci, slightly different.

If you look at how we have tried to do business it has always been the same way, younger talents and the odd big signing, it'll be similar this year but we also had to bring more players for the squad in after last years debacle.

I think he is looking more along the lines of Zambrotta, Camoranesi, Zidane, Inzaghi, Tacchinardi etc.
I get that, but I am questioning the timing for doing something like that and the quantity. It's kinda worrying when the GD says how "it's not the time to spend big...it's time to look for jewels among the smaller teams". All those players you mentioned arrived at the time when Juve were either holding CL winners, current CL finalists or one of the top 3 in Europe. Right now we need less of these and more of those odd big signings.

Juventus Chief Giuseppe Marotta Reveals Transfer Focus, Insults Former Director

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta is making transfer plans public as he works hard to build an effective side.

"We are working towards having a competitive team," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"But we must not lose sight of the financial parameters.

"We have a lot of old, corny, cheap players. These players are sucking 3/4 of our budget despite their poor performance on pitch"

He also blamed former guru Alessio Secco for the mess.

"It was not easy to convince me to takeover this wreckage but I could not say no to new president Andrea Agnelli" he said.

But signing players who can make difference seems unlikely after Secco's absurd deals in last four years.

"We will make our best to make Juventus strong like before but chances are slim. All i can say about this situation is 'Fuck Sucko' " concluded the Juve chief.

yes, i am sure of it. a journalist asked about our transfer budget and Marotta told how he takeover a wreckage and said ''Fuck Sucko'' in the end.
Was that the same interview in which he said Poulsen would be a key member of the team and he would be looking to negotiate a contract extension for him with a nice, deserved pay rise?

Nah, must have been the one where he insisted on selling Giovinco as he was just a "midget infidel" in his eyes.
