But you are looking one thing, the guy was hired to do exactly what he did, make us a mediocre team of Italians only...
Our board allocated 50mil for Aquero's acquisition and salary (7mil x2 taxes = 15mil) => 35mil available for the transfer. AM insist asking 45mil and Man City can offer that, what exactly do you expect from Marotta to do?

The deals for Matri,Pepe,Motta etc were last season's orders. Marotta was ordered to create an Italian core of 25year old players, without the necessary funds to buy them right away.
Without the necessary prestige, salary and title promises to tempt the top ones like Cassano, Pazzini, Ranocchia etc.
He was ordered to get rid of stranieri even if we have to sell them out, like we did with Diego and are about to do with Melo.
He was ordered to bring in Italians, even if we have to overspend, like we did with pretty much everyone we have bought.

What exactly did you expected him to do? He was hired because he knows the Italian market and the mediocre Italian players.
That was our priority, not to become competitive. If this doesnt change, we cannot realistically expect anything else, even a new manager will repeat the same course of action.
It is not up to Marotta or the coach to decide, when and if we move direction from an average/mediocre mid-table-to-top Italian only team, to a title contender.

Marotta made huge mistakes, but dont forget who hired him and ordered him to commit them though.
We are overlooking the real problem and that is not Marotta and Conte, but the ones who hire them...

Just one single quote to back all that. Just one.
