He did some stupid mistakes like Trezeguet, Martinez and Toni's wage but people forget that he is the one that got us Krasic, Quag, Matri, Storari, Sorensen, Aquilani with a super-low budget.
Super low?

Outright purchases:
Krasic - 15m
Bonnucci - 15 m
Martinez -12m
Storari - 4.5m

Loans:
Aqua - 16m
Quag - 15m
Pepe - 7.5m or is it 10m
Matri -18m (excellent player, but a better negotiator could've got him 5m cheaper)

Forget Motta, Traore, Toni's wages etc for a moment.

And ignore sale figures, coz that will counterbalance some figures here and that's not the intent. The point is, that this guy doesn't know how to implement resources available to him. Of his standout purchases, Quag was not even his first option. Matri was a panic buy. The ones he bought outright were not anywhere close to what he paid for them. Save Krasic. And how can your forget his sale of Diego and Gio. According to me, he has placed this club in such a precarious position with the exits of quality players like Trez, Gio and Diego. His failure to snap a free Cassano and using that spot up for a free Luca Toni instead. Not to mention, his choice of Del Neri as coach. All signs that we are one mercato away from being a mid table joke if he gets it wrong.

On deadline day, a few hours before the transfer window shuts, halfway through the season? Maybe in the summer it could be 14 or 15m but that's a lot to ask.

Great negotiator was Cagliari's president. He knew it was a matter of life or death for our season and decided to push his 15M's request for 18M.

Marotta was ok, imo. I think we can still reduce what we have to pay if we add Pasquato to the deal.
