Is Arsenal going to accept 15m + 5 in bonuses? Beppe is great at bargains but I think every single higher profile target he looks at won't come. He's $#@! at that.
35 mil for dybala, 18 mil for Zaza, 18 mil for Matri, 15 mil for Ogbonna :shifty:

I wouldn't call him great at bargains but I give him credit on the free transfers that he made (Pogba, Pirlo...)

The only bargain deals that IMO were great moves from him are Vidal and Tevez (who we managed to sign for a great fees) others not so much.

It's more like the Diego sale in many ways, even though they're two different quality of players, that was perhaps the closest we've come to a 'big' sale before Vidal.

Not to forget Paraticci who we own some perfect transfers and all the glory goes to Marotta.
We have no idea whose work or initiative is behind any transfer and really have no idea of finding out either. Paratici might be responsible for Pogba & Vidal just as much as he might be for Martinez & Ogbonna.

Ergo, it mostly makes sense for us to treat the scouting/sporting department as a singular entity when assessing their work, and as Marotta is the head of that, he's getting all the praise as well as the blame.

We also have no idea what kind of funds Marotta has been authorized to spend in the remainder of the mercato. People keep saying Marotta can't close on big targets like Aguero, Van Persie, Sanchez, etc... but each and every time we were priced out on those players, we couldn't spend 30+ mil on players at that point in time. It had nothing to do with Marotta being able to close on top players, it had more to do with our club being unable to spend sufficient funds on top players.

Marotta has done a fantastic job with limited resources. He's made his share of mistakes, but building a team that has now won 4 straight scudetti, a first coppa italia in 20 years, and played in a CL final for the first time in 12 years... well, he at least deserves a little respect and patience to see at the very least how we begin the season, before people flip out about how he performed this mercato. We lost 3 top players and brought in 3 high profile players, plus Zaza. Only time will tell how these players turn out and how Juventus shall do this season.
