Gerrard would probably be a hit in Italy. I cannot see how essentially a complete, world class midfielder would not make it in any league around the world. Now if this was Zenit St. Petersburg in late January I might agree with you..

Ofcourse not, Im not saying Gilberto wont be an upgrade, I'd just expect somebody with a bigger impact.
The thing is, I don't see us bringing in 2 quality central midfield players next season.

Gerrard would obviously be a big impact IMO, his mentality alone will push him through any difficulties in adapting to his new environment, nonetheless, only a dream.
