Capello launches Inter slur Tuesday 24 January, 2006

Fabio Capello took the opportunity to launch a stinging broadside at Inter during the Italian Football Oscars ceremony last night. "They are a lovely side…of Argentines," he said.
Capello won the Coach of the Year award for winning the Scudetto with Juventus at his first attempt, but chose to use the moment to make a disparaging comment about his second-placed rivals, Inter.
"They are a lovely side…of Argentines," he said, before adding: "Both Inter and Milan are dangerous teams."
Whether the second comment was a further attempt at irony - given that Juve are currently runaway League leaders with eight points on the Nerazzurri - is open to question, but it is certain that this latest dig at Roberto Mancini’s men will not have gone down well with the Milan-based outfit.
Inter and Juve have not enjoyed the best of relations over recent years. The Turin side’s most recent successes are a source of great frustration to a club who have often appeared to have had the personnel to launch a title-winning campaign, but have still not won the Scudetto for 16 years.
Capello’s remarks were an obvious reference to the fact that Inter frequently field a predominantly foreign side and perhaps a suggestion that it is for this reason that they have failed to find success.
The Nerazzurri have no fewer than eight Argentines in their first-team squad - Juan Sebastian Veron, Kily Gonzalez, Nicolas Burdisso, Walter Samuel, Esteban Cambiasso, Santiago Solari, Julio Cruz and their captain Javier Zanetti.
Boss Mancini has also fielded sides this season – against Artmedia Bratislava and Treviso – without a single Italian in the starting line-up.
Mancio, who has never seen eye to eye with Don Fabio, is likely to bite back at Capello the tormentor as the psychological mind games rumble on.
