"I remember when I was 20 years old in 1998 I had dinner once with Wenger from Arsenal, Then when I was at Parma, Manchester United definitely had their eyes on me for a long time with Ferguson. Let's say that the most serious and direct approach I had was from Manchester City. They wanted to start their adventure by signing two or three more renowned players and I was one of them. That was 2007 or 2008 roughly. However, nothing came of it for various reasons."

Its sad that the impression people get of him today is being projected as if that he was always at this level which is blatantly false. He was a completely different monster when he was young but the image that people will have of him is from his form today (which isn't bad at all but nothing close to his best). Casillas's image was shattered because people took his latest form to be representative of his career and you see imbeciles like Nuer get rated as equal or better than these two even though back in the day, Toldo would have challenged Nuer.

TBH I don't see much difference between the supposed peak of Buffon and his current form.
Me neither. He had a little more cat-like unreal jump before... but is not that he is a tree now. His positioning is fine, he knows when to go out and his reflexes in shots that come out of nowhere near him is ok too.

You really notice when Buffon is not playing to his standards because overall he is that good and is always in shape.

A couple of years ago (by the time we last met bayern)...him and bonucci were taking shots at having bad games... but luckily it didnt lasted long for Buff

Buffon's strengths were always his positioning and calmness around the area, he's always made the more difficult parts of goalkeeping seem easy. There are lots of keepers around who can fly across the goal stopping shots.

For now, yes.

But in 10 years time, Buffon will be remembered both for his incredibly peak and amazing longevity. Even Casillas will be remembered much better than he is now, though of course his late years are gonna tarnish his reputation somewhat.

Buffon will be remembered alongside Van der Sar as a keeper who kept breaking records for 20 years.

Buffon has the advantage of being known as a top keeper before the age of 30 though, unlike VdS :D

Absolutely never rated Casillas as high as the likes of Buffon, Kahn or Schmeichel. Very good keeper but too much error prone for my taste (in his prime). He could make a stunning save, but then moments later he could concede a really ridiculous goal.
