Yep this is a tough one. But you got to admit that his performence over the past matches would make any other GK take a bench?
Possibly.
But I think Buffon is very important for the team. I don't know how the team would react if he was "sacrificed" right now. I think we (the team) need to stick together right now.

We dont have a better keeper than him on the team so the suggestions of benching him is silly. His leadership is still very important to the team.

But what i do know though is that there is a better keeper than him in the Italian NT in Sirigu who has been nothing short of WC in the past year or so and deserves to start for Italy NT.But this discussion is for another day.

I don't know how you can say Gigi got to the ball first, cause as soon as Buffon goes to clear it, Drogba manages to get to the ball first and touches it past him slightly

Buffon did what he could and should at that moment, tried to reach the ball, but unfortunately couldn't quite get to it. Not a mistake. Bonucci made a terrible pass on the other hand.

That's even worse. First thing they teach you is never go out of the goal to clear the ball if you are absolutely 100% sure you will get it.

Buffon was already partially out due to him expecting Bonucci to pass it back, if he ran back towards goal when he saw the bad pass, most people here would blame him for that and for not trying to take on Drogba and narrow the angle

:agree: The pass was intended to him, it was between him and Drogba and he had to commit, no way he could know who will get there first.

Can't fault him for going after the ball, the attempt at getting the ball was pathetic. He should've opted for the RC if he wasn't sure.

Far too early in the game to go for a red card.
Better be one goal down than playing with 10 men 60 mjinutes being left in the game.
Better to be one goal down with an hour to go than to be without your captain and one of your strikers (after Quag had just come in too)

Exactly the attempt for the ball was ok, he went too fast in. Any keeper would of had the same reflex for those whining on Buffon, you can't just say with the replay ahh Barzagli got to Drogba and Buffon should of stayed in net... as a great keeper you don't have time to interpret that in your head in a CL game my friends.
