No it wasn't that insane. He could have saved it, lets be realistic. His positioning and reflex reaction were slow on both goals.
Really? Just look at the gif above, not forgetting its in slo-mo, he committed to go right and put all of his weight down there, he did well to change left and almost get to that. Second goal he could have done better on but by that time we were putty in Bayern's hand and if anything Buffon had a little to do with why the score was still as low as 1-0.

You must be kidding.
A shot from that far out, that's not particularly hard and that doesn't have a major or crazy deflection (despite what some here seem to think) is the complete opposite of impossible to save. He messed up, at the worst possible time.
Agreed. From all the talk I had thought that the trajectory was completely random, but seeing the videos...it wasn't that random, and I think he was caught off-guard.

The step to the right causes the problem on that goal. I'm quite surprised at that, as the ball never looks like it is going to go to the right.

At first I thought it was a lack of anticipation, but once he had made that step he couldn't get back. The only real downside with Gigi these days is that he isn't very quick with his feet. He has never been the quickest across the ground, and always used his anticipation for through balls, but no one is perfect.

Gigi was at fault both times, he was our worst player yesterday.
To his defense though, the second goal was an offside and his mistakes were maginifieddue to his unique position, he also made many wonderful saves though.

Try finding an angle which shows the shot from Buffons perspective. I can't find it now as I'm in a rush but it seemed obvious to me that the shot is initially going to the left. Vidal deflects it, it starts going to the right and the drags left again with some satanic curl.

It looks like it is going fairly central, although maybe Alaba had slightly sliced through it and Gigi was anticipating the ball going to his right, as would be expected from that type of shot.
