Frey backs up Buffon
By Football Italia staff

Sebastien Frey has defended under-fire Juventus 'keeper Gianluigi Buffon, but the Genoa man has asked for the introduction of goal-line technology.

Buffon has been heavily criticised for his admission that he wouldn’t have told the referee that Sulley Muntari’s ghost-goal, in the 1-1 with Milan, should have been awarded if he had realised it had crossed the line.

“You can’t question Buffon,” the Genoa No 1 told Sky Sport Italia. “I would have acted in the same way that Gigi did.

“There are referees who are there to make the decisions. Buffon is blameless in all this.

“We’ve taken some important steps forward with technology and I would be in favour of its use in football. It wouldn’t be bad to give the referees a helping hand.”

Meanwhile, Frey is set to appear in his 400th Serie A game this weekend when the Grifone take on Lecce.

“I’m proud and honoured that I will reach that tally on Sunday in this splendid championship,” he added. “I’m happy here at Genoa and I have re-found my motivation from the past.”

Frey, 31, joined Genoa in the summer from Fiorentina after spells at Inter, Verona and Parma.

"Instead, he said he would not have helped the referee had he been asked if the ball had gone in or not. Translated, he would have lied. And that is the problem with Italy today." :wth:

Who are these people...

How can you turn what happened there into something that big? Buffon did what any other goalkeeper would've done, regardless of nationality; he kept his mouth shut in the interests of his team.

wow that article's a joke.

I'm pretty pissed off with Malaysian media as well, they usually never give two cents about serie a in the newspaper except match week wrap ups/previews but an article on "buffon under fire for statement" came out. meh
