Folks said the same stuff about Zidane.
Folks said the same stuff about Buffon every single year.

It's different situation to then (Zidane selling time), because now we're in deep trouble and Gigi is one of 3 or 4 players who hasn't been noticeably terrible. Actually, quite decent, and there are so many more players we could sell for funds.

Like whom?

Zidane was terrible when we sold him either.

His agent, himself and Secco most recently. Other years Gigli said the same.

What I meant with the last comment was that we had a 'team' in 2001, nothing comparable to this mess.
But your last point is more evidence FOR acquiring capital to improve the team, not against.

And my question was who else can we sell to acquire a lot of funds? Trezeguet? Legro? Maybe Sissoko but nobody around here would be happy about that.

Even if we sell four or five players it won't come close to what we can potentially get for Buffon.

Bettega: 'Buffon is untouchable'
Tuesday 23 March, 2010
“Gianluigi Buffon is untouchable,” even if Manchester City offer £32m, says Juventus director Roberto Bettega.

There were reports in newspapers around Europe that Buffon would be sacrificed to raise funds for the transfer campaign if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

“The squad will not let itself get distracted by this sort of thing,” assured Bettega on the official club website.

“As for what was written in the papers about an alleged Buffon sale, I want to tell the fans that Gigi is untouchable. He will remain at Juventus.”

Juve go into a pre-match training camp this evening to prepare for Thursday night’s trip to Napoli, a game you can watch LIVE on ESPN.

“I am confident that we will soon be able to prove what we had done until recently. Aside from Mohamed Sissoko, to whom we give our sincerest condolences, all the players are in the hotel and very concentrated on the game.”

Sissoko flew out to Paris this morning after news of a family bereavement and is not expected to take part in Thursday’s match.

Well yeah, you could say that, but then I'd say I'd rather keep someone who has consistently been worth 15 points a season just from incredible games he has and build on it. Either argument would be valid, it's just which situation we think benefits the club more.

I'd say that Poulsen/Melo (8-12m?) or Amauri/Iaquinta/Trezeguet (10m+ for either of the first two, Trez won't sell big) would bring in a bit of money on top of ditching Tiago (8m) and Molinaro (2,5m).

I wouldn't really be keen on ditching Melo without seeing an organised team first, but we'd still get a lot to work with on top of the inevitable big spending summer we must have.
