SA - Interview with Gigi Buffon
By Colin | buffononline.com

Juventus and Italy's star Gianluigi Buffon, one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world, is the latest special guest of SoccerAge's exclusive interview sessions with the best Serie A players.

After a difficult start to the season, the former Parma player has been looking in a fantastic shape of late. But apart from is well-known skills, Buffon is appreciated by all of the Italian fans because of his spontaneity and good spirits.

Q: Which are the main differences between Parma and Juventus (background, fans, motivations)?

A: The background is similar, perhaps a little bit more serious here at Juve, because this club has a prestigious history. The lack of victories in the last years puts a big pressure on us, everybody wants this drought to finish and we pursue this goal with a huge concentration. My motivations have always been very high, because I love playing soccer. After spending ten seasons with Parma's jersey, joining Juve to measure my ambitions was the right decision. As for the fans, I alwyas had a good relationship with them, and this is essential to me, because I need to feel their heat.

Q: What would you prefer to win, the Scudetto or the Champions League?

A: If I was forced to choose, first of all the Scudetto and then the Champions League.

Q: Is it possible for Juve to win both competitions?

A: It's not easy, but as I always say, until there is life there is hope...

Q: What do you expect from the World Cup?

A: When the Nazionale plays in a tournament like the World Cup, the goal can only be the win, or at least the final. It's been quite a long time since Italy won the last trophy, it's time to come back to the top!

Q: Italy can win this World Cup?

Italy can surely win, but in order to reach this goal everything must go the right way: I mean that we have what it takes to make it, with so many big champions in the roster, but I think that we will also need a bit of luck.

Q: How do you manage to reconcile your job with your social commitment?

A: Soccer is my job, but the spare time must be filled in the right way, and social work is very important. It's very gratifying to do something useful for those who were less lucky than me.

Q: Is it true that a goalkeeper must be a little "crazy"?

A: I believe that everyone has a bit of madness inside him. Usually, a goalkeeper expresses it more than other people, with gestures and reactions.

Q: Your dream?

A: One day, when my career wil be over, I'd like to be remembered as one of the best goalkeepers in soccer's history.

Q: Your worst defect?

A: I'm a bit lazy...

Q: What would you have done if you were not a soccer player?

A: A PE teacher.
