i myself think the gigi could have done better during the penalties.
i dunno if its me, but gigi has a tendency to make his decision slightly before the kicker takes the penalty, and it gives the kicker a chance to change his mind at the last min. the penalty which he save against guiza was bcos he dived only when guiza kicked the ball.

correct me if i'm wrong.

Galli Blames Buffon For Penalty Defeat
Former Milan and Italy goalkeeper Giovanni Galli has criticised Gianluigi Buffon for not heeding his advice on how to save penalties following Italy’s shootout defeat to Spain at Euro 2008.
The Azzurri crashed out of the Euros on Sunday night following a 4-2 quarter final penalty shootout loss in Vienna.

Buffon saved one of Spain’s spot-kicks, while he also made a brilliant stop from Romania’s Adrian Mutu to keep Italy in the tournament during the 1-1 second group game draw.

Despite these saves, penalties are widely considered to be the only weakness in Buffon’s game, with many saying that he is unable to read spot-kicks.

"I am a friend of Gigi,” Galli told Sat2000.

“Last summer when we were together on holiday I gave him some penalty advice that he did not take.

"All penalty takers have a slight superstition, perhaps an involuntary movement of the head, dictated by instinct.

This is stupid. Gianluigi Buffon made one penalty save, and if every Italian shooter scored, Italy would've been through. Blame someone else, fucktard.

Buffon Still World's Best - Pagliuca
Former Italy goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca insists that Gian Luigi Buffon is still the greatest shot stopper in the world followed by Real Madrid's Iker Casillas and Chelsea's Petr Cech.Buffon has been outstanding for club and country this season. He produced several saves at Euro 2008, all of which are contenders for save of the tournament.

His brilliance in front of goal ensured a dire Italy side could progress to the quarter final stage of the competition only to be knocked out on penalties against Spain.

Pagliuca insists that Buffon is the best custodian on the planet followed by Iker Casillas and the Petr Cech.

“Buffon is still number one,” Pagliuca told Rai Sport.

“Then there is Casillas who is a little younger but he has just had a superb season.

“As for Cech, he has not been the same ever since his head injury and his form has dipped.”

Juventus broke the bank for Buffon in 2001 when they signed him from Parma for a record-breaking £32m.

They used part of the £50m from the sale of Zinedine Zidane to Real Madrid in order to finance Buffon’s transfer.

The goalkeeper will be hoping he continues to impress between the sticks as Juve prepare to assault the Champions League next season.

watched a science show yesterday where they said that the keeper has to jump before the penalty taker shoots, because it was merely impossible to stop a placed shot when the keeper jumps after the ball is kicked.

penalty kicks are taken with 80 km/h (22,22 meters per second), so the ball takes less then 0.5 seconds until the ball passes the goalline ...

if you take the reaction time into account, you simple cant react and jump fast enough to be able to wait for the ball to be kicked

another statistic they showed was, that in 80% of the penalties, the one who shoots will point with the standing leg into the direction of the shot ...

The problem of gig is that he decides too early in which of the directions he goes.. many of the penaly takers do not shoot strongly, if gigi jumps after they shoot it would be much effectiver..

but anyway, without gigis fantastic save against Mutu, italy would have been out of euro in the group stages..

    forza gigi

    Who is this galli anyway?

Belardi said something I always thought of and was surprised no one ever said it
He said he has no problem being 2nd choice after Buffon since Buffon is the best GK in the world and then he added perhaps the best the world has ever seen

I was always thinking he is some sort of "The Michael Jordan of goal keepers" and I`m pleased to see someone has finally acknowledge it
    Buffon deserves every praise available
