It's almost impossible to compare, IMO. There are different factors like some rules and even the ball, which is a very important factor. Maybe we can compare him with "moderns" GK as Cech, Casillas, Van Der Sar, etc, but with likely like Yashin or Zoff is almost impossible and far away of being objective.
Aye, that was my point.

Buffon Warns Spain: Watch Out For Russia
Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has praised Spain's performance against his side but warned it will be hard for them to overcome Russia... The Juventus shot-stopper played very well against Spain and his solid showing contributed to an unaltered scoreboard during the 120 minutes.

In the penalty shootout he denied Dani Güiza but that was not enough as he saw Spain's Iker Casillas save twice to send La Roja to the EURO 2008 semi-finals.

After the game, the Italian custodion stated it was a "very balanced match" with few chances on goal.

"When a team play against Italy, it is always a hard game and that pleases me," Buffon said.

Spain will now meet Russia, who Buffon considers to be a very hard team to beat after they defeated the Netherlands on Saturday.

"If the Russia that I saw on Saturday repeat the same level of play, it will be very hard for Spain," Buffon added. "The truth is that they impressed me, but I think it will be hard for them to repeat their display."

Meanwhile, Italy left-back Fabio Grosso added his thoughts on the game: "It is not easy to play against Spain, a team that love football very much. We had some chances that could have decided the game, but we could not score. I wish the Spanish team luck."

Actually, I'm slightly surprised at Buffon's post-match comments. I think they are a good sign of leadership under circumstances that are definitely unfavorable.

I'm proud to have Buffon on Juventus. He really proved to be a leader and if it wasn't for him, we have never played against Spain in first place.

Galli Blames Buffon For Penalty Defeat
Former Milan and Italy goalkeeper Giovanni Galli has criticised Gianluigi Buffon for not heeding his advice on how to save penalties following Italy’s shootout defeat to Spain at Euro 2008.he Azzurri crashed out of the Euros on Sunday night following a 4-2 quarter final penalty shootout loss in Vienna.

Buffon saved one of Spain’s spot-kicks, while he also made a brilliant stop from Romania’s Adrian Mutu to keep Italy in the tournament during the 1-1 second group game draw.

Despite these saves, penalties are widely considered to be the only weakness in Buffon’s game, with many saying that he is unable to read spot-kicks.

"I am a friend of Gigi,” Galli told Sat2000.

“Last summer when we were together on holiday I gave him some penalty advice that he did not take.

"All penalty takers have a slight superstition, perhaps an involuntary movement of the head, dictated by instinct.

“At a time when they put the ball on the spot they raise their head to look where they will put the ball. I discussed these things with Gigi last year.

”However for the first penalty kick of Villa, when he was putting the ball on the spot, Buffon was still going towards the goal and was unable to notice such details.”

Galli won 19 caps for Italy, winning a World Cup winners medal in 1982, and playing at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. He was also part of the all-conquering Milan team of the late 1980s.
