Buffon: Let's Get A New Coach Quickly
Admitting that he is closer to staying at the club than a few weeks ago, Gigi Buffon has urged the club to move swiftly to appoint a coach.
"I have no idea who will replace Deschamps," said Buffon. "It is not my problem. It is something the club must solve. I am just another player."
He did, however, show his preference for Marcello Lippi: "He obviously offers a lot of guarantees, and it will be great for everyone if he joins Juventus."
His call for the club to sign top personnel has been strong, but he insisted that his preference in no way meant he would only stay at the club if Lippi were to become the new coach.
The World Cup winner also revealed he was feeling more optimistic about the Bianconeri now than a few days back.
"I want to clarify that if I do decide to stay on, it will not be because of any other person, but because I will have found the right motivation to return to the top of Italy and Europe," he said."
"I met the club officials last week, and I must say that I am now closer to staying than leaving. However, that is not to say we have sorted everything out.
"Some things have nothing to do with football. Like Alessandro Del Piero, I am more than just a football player."
Going back to Deschamps' departure, he analysed: "We knew that there were some problems, but I think that misunderstandings between the coach and the management are normal in an important club which wants to obtain prestigious results.
"If he decided to leave he must have had his own reasons, and I want to thank him because my relationship with him was excellent. I hope his replacement will be just as good.
"Now it is just important for Juventus to react and finalise an important project for the future."
