Lippi Looks At Juventus Future, Insists Buffon Should Stay

Marcelo Lippi spoke at length about his former club Juventus, discussing where they stand, and where they go from here.

"I think Juventus should proceed in steps. I understand the fans' concern, but now the the focus has to be on promotion and reaching Serie A," he told TuttoSport.

"Then, after the transfer period, we can make some evaluations for next season. Now it would be premature."

The discusson then progressed to the futures of current players, as well as the reinforcements in the pipeline.

It all started with Buffon. "Well I think that in part I have already solved that problem," he laughed. "He said he would have followed me anywhere. "

Since I'm not going back to coaching for a while, I can propose Pianosa, Capraia, Elba, Corsica. So, I don't think it's convenient for him. I think he would do well to be at Juventus' training ground in July."

On Del Piero, and how he had been a crucial part of his Juventus and Italy teams, he said: "That's because he's very intelligent and can understand situations and his role within the group better than others.

"A perfect example is the semi-final against Germany at the World Cup, he started from the bench, but read the game very well. He read the game as if he would have started it. He was completely ready and did not make any mistakes. These things make the difference in a champion."

Next, he was asked about Luca Toni, and which big club he would fit into best: "Juventus already have one of the best strikers in the world in David Trezeguet, who is exceptional with his head, formidable close to the goal, great in rebounding the ball. And he's a great professional.

"Toni is still an excellent striker and wherever he goes he will do well, also because he's very serious."

Of Grygera, he said: "I met Grygera some years ago. I was in the Czech Republic to pick up a prize along with Nedved and they presented me this player, who allegedly was already close to Juventus.

"Nothing came of it then, but I think his career proceeded brilliantly nevertheless. He's a defender who can play on the right and on the left, but also in the center. He's also very versatile."

I must agree on that Gigi is vital part of the team, but I'm really sick of all theese talkings about him and sometimes I just wish to see announcement that he signed for other team.

Also I think many of you guys are overreacting, I know it will be hard to fullfill Gigi's place but with money we could get for him we could sign three excellent players and that's something.

We should not forget how much we paid for him. It's true that he was young when we bought him but he hes still 8-9 years in highest level. He is the best keeper in the world. If Ronaldinho cost 100 mln euro Buffon should cost at least 50mln IMO. If we sell him i just hope we don't make some stupid deal like we didi with Mutu for Bojinov co-ownership!

i'm sorry but selling buffon for 50m will be more than enough. i really love buffon but 50m was enough for us to sell zidane.

Zidane had already left in spirit a year before his body followed him to Madrid. Gigi has respect for this club and the fans. Ultimately though, we really can't keep him if he wants to move.

Every great team have a phenomenon player in thier starting 11, Milan have Kaka, Man have Ronaldo, Barca have Messi and Ronnie.

Buffon is simply our phenomenon, a goal keeper who has somthing extra above anyone else... we should not place price tag on him not even £50m.
Yes, Buffon isn't just a goalkeeper, he is the best in business and our future leader. I dislike thinking of how much we'd suffer if he leaves every time I remember how disastrous Dida was in Milan's CL match against ManUtd. Imagine what the result would have been if Buffon was Milan's goalkeeper.

Don't let us down, Secco

If we sell Gigi, and get Abbiati in return, then I think the entire board should resign
Couldn't agree more.

I want at least 65 million euro

moratti and berlusconi must spend their stolen money
:lol2:

Yeah, let's take the stolen money of the poor Italian people back. :D

it says juve is asking 75 milion for buffon
