This.

We already got the mechanics set. We produce plenty of scoring opportunities. We got wingbacks, midfielders and supporting strikers that all fit into our system well and when playing good put an immense pressure on the opposing backline. Now to the issue of last season: Lack of goals. This is where Pazzini gets relevant. Being a better poacher than Matri I see Pazzini as a decent signing. Do I prefer Dzeko or Van Persie? Of course. But if Pazzini is the best poacher available, I'm all for signing him.

It's not Pazzini vs. Van Persie/Dzeko. It's Pazzini vs. Matri/Quag.
good post, i agree.

Pazzini will be better than Quag, if we switch them then its a good deal.
But Matri >>>>> Pazzini stands.
I like your analysis.

It's that in all systems, tactics and all roles you find Matri being better than Pazzini? Or are you capable of seeing that they have different strengths [and weaknesses] and Pazzini's are arguably a better fit for Juventus' current needs (poacher)?

i don't think a further analysis of the different strenghts and weaknesses of matri & pazzo are required. They're basically from the same mould, on the pitch to do the same thing, poaching.

Aerial strenght? Pazzini
Technique? Pazzini
Finishing? Tie
Placement? Matri

Tie on technique or slight advantage for Matri. Both have the first touch of a rapist, Matri tends to get more involved in the build up play, which went pretty sweet in the first part of last season.

no. Pazzini actually has a decent touch. Matri's level of on ball technique (not talking about finishing) is quite frankly embaressing for a professional football player.

Mjah..

I don't see Matri as a pure poacher like Pazzini. He has better movement outside the box and is better in the build up. But then again we might be comparing King Edward potatoes with Bintje potatoes.

No worse than Matri in the second half of our season, in a much more dysfunctional team.

I see Matri as a poacher who'se been forced out of the box by the coach to participate in the build up play. He looks excruciatingly uncomfortable every time he receives the ball and he's not in a position to shoot or make one simple pass.

Matri was superb in our dysfunctional team when we finished 7th, and quite impressive last season before Conte ditched him for Boriello.
Im not saying Pazzini is far worse but his current state shows he's declining as a footballer.

They are both quite average, and sacrificing one for the other makes no sense. It's not like we are taking a huge leap in terms of quality with the acquisition of this disgusting infested creature.

Not player for player. But our team will be better. Do I need to remind that Conte had zero faith in Matri last season.

I totally agree it looks like Conte was playing MAtri almost like a ss. MAtri was running everywhere but during the preseason hes been making good first touches, passes, running in the box and still helping the team. I think Matri might have settled into the system or Conte modified it to work with Matri
