Bayern chief Hoeness critical of misfiring Podolski

Bayern Munich commercial manager Uli Hoeness says Germany striker Lukas Podolski has not done enough in Munich since his arrival in July 2006.

He said having a powerful shot was not enough and that it was too easy for defenders to take the ball from Podolski, who has scored four goals in 22 Bundesliga matches.

'He's been here nearly a year and a half, and he's got to show something in his second year, he's got to prove himself,' Hoeness told Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

'He hasn't done anything yet. If he doesn't make big changes in his attitude soon, he won't make it here.'

I hope he joins Werder soon...

tbh werder should've pushed for him from the beginning in the klose deal, but they were outsmarted as far as i see it.
The problem was also that Bayern did not say things like this at that time. Podolski was to be kept, and I don't know how Hoeneß talks about him failing at Bayern now. Podolski does not seem to be a player who can be motivated by such statements. He seems to be more the sensitive type like Klose. Perfect for Werder :D.

Cool, same here actually. But don't you just hate seeing other team than Juve dominating something / somewhere?

yeah and it sucks when the player that said he won't join that particular club changes his mind and screws you up.

Toni Strikes Again As Bayern Pip Bayer

    Bayer Leverkusen 0-1 Bayern Munich

A 40th minute strike from Luca Toni saw Bayern Munich pick up a vital win in their top of the table clash against Bayer Leverkusen.

In an absorbing game, the Bavarians edged out the home side 1-0 thanks to a goal shortly before half time from Luca Toni.

It was a battle for the Bundesliga lead, but one which failed to produce a change at the top.

Instead, it is Bayer Leverkusen who drop down seom second to fifth, with Schalke, Hamburg and Karlsruhe all jumping above them.

The first half was an action packed, end-to-end affair with both sides willing to attack.

Barnetta hit the post, before Klose had a perfectly legitimate goal ruled out, when the linesman failed to notice the ball had crossed the line.

The breakthrough came five minutes before the break when Ribéry played Klose through. The German international unselfishly played the ball square to Toni, who fired in past Adler from close range.

Bayern looked more assured in the second half an on balance deserved their three points. Leverkusen were unable to really test stand-in keeper Michael Rensing.

Bayern move four points clear at the top of the table, in absolutely relentless mood.

Bundesliga Round-Up: Bayern Edge Leverkusen, Werder Hit Eight

The big game of the afternoon at the Bay-Arena saw Bayern Munich edge out Leverkusen 1-0 in a highly absorbing game. Werder Bremen thrashed Bielefeld 8-1, while Stuttgart’s away form continues to disappoint with a 2-1 defeat at Rostock.

First in the table faced second at the Bay-Arena in Leverkusen as Bayern Munich looked to extend their unbeaten run. In an absorbing game, the Bavarians edged out the home side 1-0 thanks to a goal shortly before half time from Luca Toni.

The first half was an action packed, end-to-end affair with both sides willing to attack. Barnetta hit the post, before Klose had a perfectly legitimate goal ruled out, when the linesman failed to notice the ball had crossed the line following a shot.

Werder Bremen thrashed Arminia Bielefeld 8-1 at the Weser Stadion to record the most convincing win of the season so far. Four goals in each half condemned the visitors to a highly embarrassing defeat.

Hugo Almeida and Boubacar Sanogo both got two goals, while Peter Niemeyer, Per Mertesacker, Markus Rosenberg, and Diego all got their names on the score sheet as Werder were rampant against a sorry Bielefeld. The sole consolation goal from Bielefeld was scored by Wichniarek.

Champions Stuttgart’s woeful away form continued as they went down 2-1 at Hansa Rostock. Seemingly invincible at home the Swabians were made to look decidedly ordinary at the DKB Arena.

Two first half goals within two minutes of each other saw the game swing in the home side’s favour. Tobias Rathgeb handed Rostock the lead in the 16th minute and the lead was doubled by Orestes in the 18th minute.

Mario Gomez gave Armin Veh’s side hope with a goal after 73 minutes but it proved not enough to overcome a resolute Rostock

Hamburg twice took the lead against Felix Magath’s Wolfsburg, only to concede equaliser’s and have to settle for a 2-2 draw. Defender Bastian Reinhardt gave the home side the lead after 17 minutes with a header following good work from van der Vaart.

Grafite levelled on 57 minutes with a penalty, but Hamburg regained the lead on 70 minutes with van der Vaart this time scoring himself with a superb direct free kick. However, the 'Wölfe’ were not to be denied and Ashkan Dejagah popped up to secure a point for the visitors on 88 minutes.

Bochum and Nürnberg shared six goals as the two sides drew 3-3 in a game which both sides needed to win. The visitors took the lead twice through Kluge only for the home side to equalise within minutes on both occasions.

Sestak then gave Bochum the lead for the first time in the afternoon on 66 minutes with his second of the game, before Misimovic rescued a point for Hans Meyer’s struggling side nine minutes from time.

Karlsruher heaped more woe upon Dortmund trainer Thomas Doll with a 3-1 win against the hapless Dortmunder. Fresh from their 3-0 home defeat to Hamburg, BVB needed a performance against the newly promoted side.

However goals from Porcello, Eggimann and Freis, condemned the visitors to their second consecutive home defeat. Veteran defender Christian Wörns scored a consolation for the visitors.

Bayer Leverkusen v Bayern Munich 0-1

Werder Bremen v Arminia Bielefeld 8-1

    Hamburg v Wolfsburg 2-2

    Bochum v Nürnberg 3-3

    Karlsruher v Borussia Dortmund 3-1

    Hansa Rostock v Stuttgart 2-1

    goals galore in this round.

Sorry Dortmund lose again.I had a look at their starting line up and their bench and i sensed they wouldn't be up to the task. And relying on Brezenska,Woerns and Kovac for your defense is just scary

@Alltagsheld- who is Peter Niemeyer ?

    Peter Niemeyer

    age: 23
    position: DM, RB, CB
    nationality: German
    height: 191 cm
    weight: 83 kg

He came to Werder last winter from FC Twente Enschede, where he was player of the season 2005/2006. He only had five appearances in the Bundesliga for Werder and scored his first goal today in the game vs. Bielefeld. He did not look so good in his matches for Werder so far and was not nominated for Werder's CL-squad. Due to the high number of injuries he got the opportunity to play in the game vs Wolfsburg, where he helped to strengthen the defence in the 2nd half and so got his place in the starting 11 vs Bielefeld.

    Klasnic Is Back

Two goals in training, a good humoured laught and a smile here an there, the odd difference of opinion with the referee. Ivan Klasnic completed his first team training with his colleagues as if he’d never been away: “It was a bit quieter here while he was away”, joked Tim Borowski who was delighted about the return of his team mate. The Werder players welcomed Klasnic back with open arms. The striker had a personal word and a joke for almost everyone of the players during the 90 minute session: “A few knew that I’d be back in training again this week but most found that out on the pitch for the first time. It was great to back with the lads again and everyone really enjoyed themselves”, explained Klasnic who received the word on Thursday morning that all formalities had been completed and he could get going again.

Ivan Klasnic was all too happy to get back to a normal working day: “It was a good training session, shooting practice and a kick-about. I was so happy to be able to train with a few others and as you could see, I haven’t forgotten how to play football”, stated Klasnic, who was somewhat taken aback by the huge media presence at training.

Physically the Croatian striker dealt with the strain very well: “I had a few stomach problems, I didn’t really eat much today and I was lacking a little energy. As soon as I get home I’ll eat something.” Klasnic will need plenty of energy in the coming weeks. After as short a period as possible the striker wants to get back into the first team: “I am part of the team but I can’t help out at the moment – I’ll get there though. I want to get that feeling back that you have as a Bundesliga player.”

With that in mind, the 27 year old is taking an amount of risk: “Of course something could happen but my kidneys are well protected by my protective belt and my stomach muscles. If a players ploughs into the back of another player he could damage those kidneys too.” The Croatian appears to have come through the whole issue very well: “Of course it wasn’t easy. It was a nine month period of suffering which I wouldn’t wish on anyone. My family were very important during that time. “Now when I sit at home I don’t even think about the fact that I was ill. Only the medicine I take mornings and evenings, as well as the scar, remind me of that.”
